Gordon R
I have a few guns, but shoot sporting with a Beretta 682E Gold Trap 32". I was considering treating myself to an upgrade. The guns I had looked at are:- Beretta DT10, Perazzi, Kemen and Gamba. I have shot none of these and would welcome any opinions about value for money, handling, reliability etc. I have read up on Shotgun World, but some of these take a bit of a panning and never seem to compare well to Caesar Guerini. Once I have taken the plunge, I was going to go the extra yard of having some lessons to correct bad habits I have lapsed into over the years. Barn_Owl
From a Kemen K4 owner, previously owned a DT10. The DT10 was purchased second hand from a very reputable dealer down south, Opti chokes and immaculate condition with not a mark on it anywhere. After about 1,000 carts through it the top barrel failed to fire, changed cartridges in situ and away we went but after a few more non-fires the same day it went into my local gunsmith. Long story short .... gun fixed but then went to double dischage ... my pride and joy was letting me down and I just lost confidence in her. Had her totally serviced and sold her for the same price I had paid from the dealer, so not too bad but the gunsmiths bill was £405. The gunsmith did say it's had an awful lot of use however the gun looked mint. Thought I would try 32" barrels before commiting to a Perazzi so purchased a Laurona from a very nice gentleman from Up'North who's two Akita's frightened the life out of me For me the 32" was too long but this gun has become my favorite pigeon / crow gun, daft as it may seem I get on very well with the tight chokes and extra length in the pigeon hide but not on clays or driven pheasant. Looked at Perazzi's in all models but never liked the woodwork (my personal opinion) I know you can visit the factory and choose the wood of your choice but I just wanted an off the shelf gun that my gunsmith could alter the stock if required. While looking at more Perazzi's at Kelbrook I noticed a very nice Kemen, long story short I could trial the gun on their ground so off I went, loved it. Ordered a new gun from Mr. Megson (spelling) 30" barrels, fixed choke 5/8 & 5/8, leaf springs, detachable trigger etc.etc. Six weeks later the gun arrived with beautiful dark well grained woodwork (the barrels have their individual weight engraved on them) and two spare leaf springs are included. It's only eighteen months old and used last season on driven pheasant and partridge with quite a few clays this year and proved faultless (as it should). It cost a little over £4k, the same as a Perazzi at the time although prices now have gone through the roof !!!! I've no idea on gun fit for you Gordon as your a big lad but give a Kemen a try, the only down side with Kemens has been the lack of wood meat just in front of the pistol grip (too slim) on early models, this resulted in some cracks which Kemen replaced free of charge. Modifications for the Mk2 increased the grip size and that's the model to go for. B) Never tried a Gamba only because I fell in love with the Kemen. danimal
My Dad shoots a perrazzi sc3, before that he shot mk38s, he had a dt10 for about 2 weeks and chopped it in but now he loves his perazzi he wouldnt change it for anything and with the choose your own wood service etc it really adds a nice touch for an expensive gun, if you were interested in one let me know and i can arrange it for you as he is sponsored (fitasc) by perazzi and we have a gunshop! Gordon R
Thanks for the input. Nice to know you have still got my Laurona. I still have the Akitas. Edited October 1, 2010 by Gordon R
COACH
I have tried them all though the Gamba was only for 50 birds. To be honest if you want something nice and well made it has to be the Perazzi but they are over priced really. If you want a damned good gun that is reliable get a nicer 682 gold E trap. Gordon R
All ready got one - 682E Gold Trap. I was in a fairly bad car crash in July - had to be cut out of the car. I had been feeling more than a little sore and brassed off and thought I would cheer myself up with yet another gun. Retail therapy.
GW80
I'm no real expert but for what it's worth, i have loaned my cousins MX8 trap gun and shot a few ABT comp with it and must say it;s not the prettiest gun for the price, but have never felt trigger pulls like it! His gun was made in 1986 i think. And has shot more cartridges than he cares to remeber, i know if i had the cash i would buy a perazzi
wisecobandit
I went and upgraded my caesar to the new caesar impact sporting high rib. I just wanted something different and its so much softer to shoot than the DT10 but cant comment on the others youve suggested.

manxman2
You would get a nice browning for that gordon i would think. Anyway for that kind of money you will get to play before you pay, the guy i bought my guns from once let me take a nikko 5000 decoying with me, either bring it back or a cheque he said. Its only money gordon enjoy it, and hopefully more guns means more shooting. Be lucky.
Gordon R
Had a play about with some of these:- Beretta DT10 - I didn't take to the shoulders on the action - bit of a distraction. Kemen Trap - loose forend put me off, plus it was the thinnest trap forend I have ever felt. The pistol grip was all wrong - I appreciate there are probably many. Perazzi - okay, but didn't find any that fit me better than the Beretta I have. Been looking out for a Gamba - rare as hen's teeth up here. Catamong
Gordon, I now use a Gamba, a 31" Daytona Sporter I can't fault it, they're very similar to a Perazzi, but not as pricey. Trevor Stanton at Country Pursuits in Rickmansworth will offer advice, he's always got a good selection on the rack. Cat.
Gordon R
Cat - thanks for that. Just a bit far to drive at the moment following a nasty car crash. I must make a mental note not to drive along without expecting an idiot in a Cherokee to reverse into me at high speed, in reverse. There are a couple of Gambas within about 70 miles. Are they mainly black actioned and do any of the Trap models come as a multichoke?

I have a Gamba, the one before the Daytona 30'' 1/4 1/2 hand engraved unfortunately I dropped it and cracked the stock, so I'm having a new one made in Italy on a (cheaper than UK and a Monte Carlo) If you want a go with mine when it comes back if youve not bought one already no prob. Gambas are a par with Perazzi et al but havent got the name I think Cheryl Hall uses one and if I'm not mistaken Charlotte Kerwood used one to win her commonwealth games medal. So they are good. My gunsmith did the triggers last year and was impressed with the trigger group. I wouldn't swap mine! Maybe a Sidelock Gamba If I win the lottery tonight
Gordon R
Fair enough. I wouldn't mind a look at one.
