dickbmw
A neighbour keeps a few ducks which are being steadily devoured by foxes, it's an easy short shot to hit them but what would be the most effective shot size for despatching these pests (the foxes that is!!), and is it legal to use a shotgun on them? Cheers.
magman
perfectly legal 3" mag no 2s should do the job
dunganick
if your gun has 3" chambers at 15yards almost anyshot will do (6's or preferably bigger) BB, 2's they will all be fine. just keep the range short if you use anything lightish like 6's
Baldrick
I've used the Express 36g cartridges loaded with 9 pellets of SG buckshot for foxes before. Atrocious patterning at range, but within range the fox is nailed.
Ears
BB or SG are fine for the job. I generally use SG with 36gram load they do the trick well but you need to have some choke in the barrel. Try not to use shot to small for the job 3 shot or bigger and head shots if poss. Good luck

Good luck I find BBs and magnums at very short range come out like candles but are great for long range, say 40 to 50yds. At short range i find you cant beet an Alfamax No 5. bobt
I use homeload AAAs, will drop a fox at 50 yds, I agree that under 20 yards sixes are ok.

henry d
Come on dickbmw........give us an idea of range please,as we have had everything from 6`s to sg`s(270 & 8 to the oz respectively)
dickbmw
Around 20 - 25 yards, nice easy shot, usually see the blighters with a duck in their mouths. Cheers Richard
M ROBSON
You can never have too much lead for old charlie! A heavy load of BB's will make sure it's done properly. Mark.
henry d
2`s to BB`s for me at that range and I agree with M.R. heaviest load possible(36gm minimum)
roe doe
i agree with mark and henry d good heavy load because then you are covered if mr fox pops out at 15 yards or 45 yards ( as long as you can hold the gun straight )
