Ireland's Finest!
Hi, What would be the best chokes to use on my Browning 12g u/o when shooting mallard duck? I'll be using remington no. 4's 36g cartridges.
poontang
I use skeet and 1/4. If I had a cylinder choke I'd use cylinder and skeet. I 'patterned' my 1/4 choke into a mudbank this morning using a 36g #3shot at about 20 yards. The 'pattern' diameter was no bigger than a large dinner plate!! oneshot.308
Hi, What would be the best chokes to use on my Browning 12g u/o when shooting mallard duck? I'll be using remington no. 4's 36g cartridges. Try Young Guns in Castledawson - they have new chokes in called terror chokes. Super job, but £85 quid or so. I bought won a few weeks ago, great job dropping mallard at 50+ yards. Enjoy!

manxman2
Side by side half and half maximum 5 in back trigger 6 infront, or improved 1/4, with either gytorp althamax maximum, give anything a try really aslong as i had confidence in second pull.. kent
pattern with steel is way more effected by which shell than which choke. I tried a whole range of factory duck loads recently on paper and was totally staggered by the results, pointless saying that a certain brand was best as i feel it's down to the gun and the cartridge acting together. Personally i feel choke is the work of the devil Seriously if you can test it. I leave mine on improved and think more in terms of which shell works best if they are in range and i do my bit they are dead- confidence is a great thing and knowing you get a good killing pattern at a certain range is a far better state of mind than wondering if you have the right choke fitted

woodcock1
For flight pond at night 32gm of steel is plenty through a 1/4 choke. Lough Neagh type shooting then 1/2 choke and your 36gm's
