I when down the farm house and asked if it was OK to shoot the next day. I Packed the car and 2 x 250 boxes of cartridges I thought it was going to be a big day. Got to the field not a bird in sight. I sat in the car for half an hour and had two coffee's still no birds.

proTOM1
I have spent all day since 7am till 4pm do reccon for this weeks clients and have had no trouble finding birds . tho in a few areas i was hoping to see them there was very little about . have found good numbers on old drilling and winter rape in a few areas , seen numbers in parks on the acorns also . Spoke to another fellow pigeon shooter who said his area had been dead for the last 2 weeks but he had noticed a good few on some rape this morning after our first proper frost . bluboy
I have had a below average year but and its a BIG but is I think there is many factors . Birds have been moving more it use to be that the first gale in autum would dictate how many birds where on your patch for the winter .Now they seem to move though the season after a good day on some stubbles in the last week the birds have pushed on dispite still good numbers of beans /maize/wheat on the stubbles . So they have not gleaned it clean just moved away this never use to happen with beans there would glean it to it was clear. The birds are getting more wary on some overshot farms causing bag numbers to be lower but the population increasing. Kind regards OTH I will agree with you on that land owners seem to think the more shooters the better on areas where pigdeons are a serious problem i can definetly say that this is not the case they just become extreemely twitchy getting shot less and increasing in numbers as you have stated. garden gun
Woodies have all but disappeared in S Bucks, but we were at Slimbridge WWT on Friday - more tame woodies than you can shake a stick at. All v fat due to feeding on spare grain used by visitors to feed the ducks etc. No gun required just grab and wring - not that you could with "tree huggers" present. Tempting though. Also more corvids that you could count.

Fired both barrels at some passin overhead, (missed!! ) and the whole lot disappeared!
motty
I spoke to a local pigeon shooter from the south lincs area last week (he's in his 80's and still shooting pigeons), and he told me that he's never seen so many pigeons in all his years. Interesting.
