1. that's not a respected shooting text or authority

2. that's not even from this country

Again, I ask the question, if you meant to shoot a hare, why would you go further away as opposed to nearer it?

I am not asking anyone to subscribe to *my* shooting code. It's just the way I see things and I reckon I have asked a fairly rationale question and have yet to receive a sensible answer.

There we go. You better just stick me down in the knocker camp because I must be jealous of your mad shootin skillz

I answered on the previous thread >>>>

I guess the answer would be cos they can....... we all like to think we are great shots and by taking longer shots you are pushing your limits like in any sort of sport, be it shooting long range shots or trying to go as fast as you can around a race circuit , so the answer is 'Cos they can' . Obviously they should be capable of the shot in question and not just practice on live quarry

ure not in the knocker camp mugler,u dont see things the way i do thats all, that why there are rows,as people try to enforce their will on others. i doubt this guy make a habit of this long range thing, and i bet he wishes he never posted it. in answer to ure question of a why? well i just think on this occasion he tried to push the envolope, pictures as back up would be good though.im signing off of this one now,as ive made a few good points on the subject.

I would assume he initially had a crosswind, so moving to get a headwind made the distance longer and the dialling in easier with not having to dial for windage.

Lot of conflicting post on here, half of you are saying that if he shot it with a ballistic tip there would be nothing left for the freezer and yet a lot are saying that there is a huge chance it could be wounded and escape to suffer for days on end?

I think all of us that shoot centre fire know that if you were to hit a hare with a 50 grain plus ballistic tip, the whole body is the kill area!

Shooting hares is not for me anyway, I like to see them around, but I will say there are one or two of you on here that comment on every single thread of this nature and you do make yourselfs sound like "if I cant do it, nobody else can"

If you know the guy is talking ****, just dont reply, he will soon get bored of doing it, but dont be so keen to know best all the time!

Ive read this thread all the way through and come to one conclusion...

There are those that can and do shoot at long range ...and there are those that cant so they don't...

Or is that two conclusions ?

Martin, not having a go at you mate but everyone has their own opinions. This thread is all about shooting a Hare with a CF rifle at a let's face it at a stupid range.

Do I agree with shooting Hares with a CF and the answer is NO.

It's not about long range shooting mate at all as you've said.

I can't believe people are still arguing about how 'inhumane' this is. I completely see the point of going further away to avoid windage - an unpredictable crosswind at 500 vs a headwind at 700 - I'm going with option B!

That's the point - there's no holdover to worry about, you calculate your drop and dial in. Taking windage out, it's possible to be very accurate, cold-bore, and, I was going to say it's not rocket science, but technically it is. It's not difficult, anyway!
