It is impossible to know the problem without knowing a whole load more, but the most likely answer is......

You are not going to like this but.......

This is almost always down to cleaning, but sounds bad if you can feel them, do you not look down the barrel every cleaning to check, checking would have prevented this getting so bad and showed it was not cleaned properly! :good:

ATB with your quest with the dealer/GMK. :good:

I knew someone was going to say this,i clean it every time i use it,with a phospher bronze brush if there are any stubborn marks, this only seems to have come in the last couple of outings, looks more like dodgy chrome lining to me,

I shall be in touch with my dealer this week who hopefully will take it up with GMK as i bought the gun from him,if not i will take it up myself, all my guns are cleaned in the same manner and this is the only one that has this problem

Email GMK they will let you know what to do, probably send it back via the shop.

The gun should have a 10 year guarantee so don`t panic.

The barrels are chromed so you shouldn`t get that problem unless you`ve been goose shooting on the foreshore and haven`t cleaned it for weeks, but you have been cleaning it so... :hmm:

Try some good solvent barrel cleaner and have a good scrub with the brush, it might well be plastic from the wad.

Are you sure its pitting and not just plastic fouling or suchlike.

My guns always look a bit grubby a few inches down the barrel but that's all it is in mine.

No mate, thats what i thought it was a couple of weeks ago so wasn't overly concerned,up until then it has been fine,as i said before this seems to have come on quick hence the reason i think it is more likely faulty chrome,if anyone saw this gun apart from a bit of bluing worn where the forend slides on,and when its on you cant see it,it looks like new still,i look after all my guns well, always left out in the warm air to dry then cleaned before going in the cabinet, which is in my spare room not in a damp place.

In reply to coach,i think i bought this just before the 10 year warranty's came out and it is just out of the 3 year warranty,i have already done what you said and i am 99.9% certain it is pitting so i shall let my dealer look first and well go from there,it has also never been used on the foreshore, only used for pigeon shooting, and only used lead cartridges, and cleaned every time.

Give me some credit please? sorry i know your only trying to help, but no nearer to the chamber, ill try to see if i can get a picture, but i doubt it

Mate I don't know you from Adam, so how do I know how much credit to give you? Strange as it may seem, that mistake HAS been made before by others on here and other forums I go on. As you correctly point out, I was only trying to help.......

Barney, I confess that the gas ports were my first thought and you wouldn't be the first to mistake them for blemishes by any means.

Have a look at the 'shotgunworld' American forum and you will see many references to just that.

If you can feel the marks then it seems there is a problem and I would first of all contact GMK with proof of purchase date.If they suggest that the gun is out of warranty then ask for a repair/replacement on the basis of goodwill and the good publicity they would get out of such a gesture.

Thanks for all your advice,i am going to make a couple of calls tomorow, first will be where i purchased it from so he can have a look as he deals with GMK and will be the one returning it on my behalf hopefully, and one to GMK with the purchase date and can send them a copy of the reciept if need be and explain the situation and hopefully they will sort it for me.

Thanks again to you all,

Chris.

I would suggest that if it's a manufacturing defect then the age of the gun or length of guarantee is irrelevant.

There is a reasonable expectation for a Beretta shotgun barrel to last a lifetime and if it is failing now it was clearly not made properly.

I would expect a free repair at the very least and would contact Citizens Advice first to find out what my rights are.

I did have this when using plastic wads. fowling in the barrel i went to town on it and got it all out but it did look like pitting to start with. i havent had the problem since going to fibre wads. i do how ever have some marks on the outside of the barrel field version for me as well. i cant get then out but i can feel them. yellowy powder came off then to start, i now soak with oil before putting away.

Im struggling to believe a Beretta barrel would go ******** in such a short space of time with out some kind of insane mistreatment.

Iv heard of someone ruining a Beretta barrel on an o/u but he shot steel through it for months before he was told it was not steel shot proof.

I bet it some crud.

Beretta are renowned for tough barrels.

Took it back to where i bought it yesterday, looked at it and said a bit of stubborn fouling,5 mins later were packaging it up to go back to GMK,definatley chrome coming off,he is sending it back on my behalf and dealing with it for me for now,However if he has no joy i shall take the matter up myself as it is around 12 months ago i had all the hassle with an ultralight i purchased and ended up having 4 changes due to marked barrels and waiting 3 months for a gun i bought brand new,i also forgot to mention to him that i didnt use the semi for the first month due to a wrist op,so althought it is out of the 3 year warranty it is only by a couple of months.

I origanly bought a beretta because i thought i was buying quality,i may now have to change my mind,if this doesn't get sorted in my favour it will be the last beretta i buy,and when it does get sorted i might think about chopping it in for something else.
