well i have been doing alot of pigeon shooting over the last week .i have shot almost 500 since boxing day (well me and one or two good mates )and what i have noticed is that there are a lot of young birds in the ones we have shot to day we shot 120 and out of that there must ave been 30-35 young birds in with them and we noticed loads of them coming into the decoys.

has any one else noticed large numbers of young birds about i would have thought with all the cold weather we have had 4 weeks of snow on the ground that they would not have been breading but it just goes to show how tough and adaptable these birds are to weather conditions

Yes seeing quite afew young birds but what you have to remember is they dont get there white neck till there a good 2 to 3 months old ,having said that we shot 1 on sat that still had fluff on it and had only just come off a nest which is crazy but thats then sign of the times with there breeding

The dog picked up a fresh off the nest Woodie 2 weeks ago. It was skin and bone and cold hardly fly.

They are nesting all year around here now, especially in evergreen garden shrubs, I even saw an adult bird return to a nest in a straw barn on our shoot on Thursday last week!

Mark.
