activeviii
Been working the dogs on this one shoot all year. this year is the last year so should be a good beaters day. or so i was hoping. beaters day is on thursday next week. i have picking up tomorrow on there for the last time. well that was the plan. Sunday night the pup jumps up and puts her claws into my right eye. spend Monday in hospital in casualty and then onto emergency eye ward. im treated and sent home have had to go back Tuesday and wednesday, spending most the day in there each time. i have 3 claw marks over the eye with one of them being over the retina. then some french doctor tells me that how my sight was on wednesday will be how it will always be due to the way the damage is and glasses will make no differance. i have double vision on the one eye were im trying to see around the scar but at best its a blur of colours. i have been out last week to get some cartridges for the high birds and even cleaned the shotgun but as it stands at the moment i cant shoot. if i can see and walk without falling over then im still going to go and work the dogs but it looks like im either going to have to learn left handed or guns are going to a better place. someone said to me 'never mind at least i still have my health' well if you call a ******** back, a knee thats on the replacement list, lactose and gluten intolerant and one buggeder ear and a ganglion on the wrist good health then i must be missing something. my god, what else can go wrong. sorry, its been a pants day.lmao. PhilR
Was the French doctor in A&E or Ophthalmic dept? If the former I'd be inclined to get a referal to the latter.
activeviii
Was the French doctor in A&E or Ophthalmic dept? If the former I'd be inclined to get a referal to the latter. It was the younger one out of the two in Ophthalmic. i have forgotten her name. the older one yesterday was a bit more positive but not much. something about shaving the eye to get it smoother. Im going to see what happens over the next few days/weeks and then if im still not happy i will go private nad see if i can see again. i just went walking the dogs in the fog. it was great as its how i see now anyway.lol. artschool
really sorry to hear that bit of bad luck. surely with all the laser eye surgery availble they will be able to improve the vision. maybe the next doc will be more positive? a friend of mine was given 24hrs to live over christmas and she is on her way to full recovery now, they aren't always right. ostrea
I can sympathise with you lost most of the vision around six years ago due to a illness. Any consolation i started shooting left handed 2 years next march and getting along fine now, just come home from a few hours shooting 3 snipe and a fox. Best of luck with your treatment at the eye clinic
Buckster
Hope everything go's well for you.lost virtually all my sight in my right eye in 2007 due to sticking my face to near a clay pigeon trap (long story), just can see light and dark shades now .I carried on shooting on my right shoulder till October of last year when I decided to change to my left.Very strange and alien, lot's of practice dry mounting, shot on our beaters day last Saturday and managed to shoot a pheasant and a red leg which I was happy with apart from the shot to kill ratio about 12/1 Good luck Barry
activeviii
thanks guys for all your well wishes, very much needed at the moment. I have siad to the wife that if i have to change to the left then i will sell the rifles and just try the shotgun for a bit but i will also be buying a couple more pups and just spend my time training and working them. after all its not their fault, it was mine for being lazy by not wanting to walk back to the wine bottle and i just refilled a pint glass red, then starting play with puppies and my reactions were a little slower than normal, one pup dived up on me and hooked the eyeball with her claws. more than anything is im gutted about beaters day.lol. i'm still going and picking up and beating for the rest of the lads. as long as i can stand the day light that is. poontang
something about shaving the eye to get it smoother. I was talking to a guy yesterday who's had that operation. He reckons it's made a hell of a difference to his sight. I'm seeing him tomorrow so I'll try and find out a bit more. Chin up mate

welshwarrior
You have my sympathy hope you get through it soon. A friend lost this right eye in Afghanistan he now shoots left eyed off his left shoulder, good luck. There are people who specialise in this type of coaching, went to a lesson with him and the where 2 guys who had lost legs and one who had lost an arm.
