phaedra1106
Firstly I'd like to thank everyone who replied to my earlier thread concerning the doctors letter The original plan was to get him his SGC and then in a few years time apply for a FAC so he could come with me to another club I'm also member of, obviously things being what they are at the moment that's not going to happen any time soon. However, following a posting on the other thread about him trying air rifles/pistols I took him along to the club on Friday evening and we had a chat with the chairman. Having explained everything that's gone on (he wasn't at all surprised) he said that as long as he completed the mandatory safety training and probationary period he could become a full member of the club same as anyone else using his own air weapons or the clubs 22 rimfire or 357 underlever rifles. The fact that he wouldn't be able to apply for his FAC any time soon wasn't an issue and he would be able to shoot there as long as he remained a member Once again my thinks to all who offered advice Edited January 22, 2011 by phaedra1106
edr
We need a like button. Good luck, it's bad enough being a junior, hopefully a few years will pass and he'll be able to try again. ATB EDR

Gordon R
I think you have taken the sensible option and am glad it has turned out as well as could be expected. All the best to you and your son. Nice to see dads looking after their children. :good:
phaedra1106
Thanks Can't remember if I said it but he's 21 this year, 6 foot 4", usually dresses in black skull T-Shirts, black jeans, full length black leather trench coat and a huge pair of size 12 combat boots!!, you can see people moving out of his way when he's out with me daft thing is that under all that he's a really sweet kid with a developmental age of about 15 so pretty unsure of himself and meeting others but once he gets to know someone he's fine. Frenchieboy
At last, a sensible result for a young shooter form a club that was obviously formed on common sense rather than just an individuals own (And often wrong or unfair) interpretation of "guidelines"! How about naming the club so that they can be given the credit they deserve Phaedra1106?
welshwarrior
Full credit to the Club for a sensible approach name them so they can get the credit. Good luck with all the shooting.
phaedra1106
No problem Shotgun club is the Beamish Sporting Club who shoot at Winnows Hill near Slaley Hall in Northumberland http://beamishsportingclub.co.uk/ The gun club for rifle and pistol is the Mayfair Shooting Centre in Sunderland http://www.mayfairshootingcentre.co.uk/ Had him out this morning for clay pigeon and he did better than me (as usual), my excuse this time is that I was using a newly acquired (from Pigeon Watch forums of course) Hatsan Silver Optima O/U and not my usual Hatsan Escort Semi Edited January 23, 2011 by phaedra1106
