Ireland's Finest!
I dont understand, If the gaps are wide enough for crows to fly into it why cant they just fly back out? Stupid question?
stubby
I dont understand, If the gaps are wide enough for crows to fly into it why cant they just fly back out? Stupid question? birds do not fly into it, they perch on the ladder, see the food or another bird, then drop in with their wings closed, of course, once inside their wings are open when flying/hoping and therefore cannot get out, thats why both ends of ladder are solid ply, to stop them climbing up the wire to freedom... longdog
Be carefull mate. Made some of these myself this year out of 2 by 2 and a good strong wind will pick them up and deposit them in the next county. I've found that a wooden peg on each side does the trick though. Nothing worse than seeing all your hard work smashed to bits

pigeonstool
One of the best sources for game keeping / vermin control is :- "Your Shoot" Gamekeepering and Management by Ian McCall of the Game Conservancy .. page 38 Chapter = "Cage trapping corvids" - refers pub by A & C Black ISBN 0-7136-3206-2 There was a great article in Shooting Times & Country Magazine - March 25-31 1993 ; page

scotslad
Many years ago when i was at schoo i done work experience with local council pest controller and he had a 'doo' hut (garden shed with popholes in it) on top off the local town hall roof, would feed them for a while in about it them put the non return flaps down to catch them. No one ever knew it was there and happening. U better check the general licence for ur area if ur allowed to 'take' pigeons that way. Pretty sure it is ilegal to use a pigeon as a decoy bird in a larsen trap so not sure about larger crow traps.
robbiep
have a question willl this work of pigeons ? havning a big problem with them , No, you can't use these for pigeons. The reason being that, as soon as one pigeon is in the trap, it is acting as a decoy bird for any other birds, and that places you in breach of the law. rich1985
I use on of these and they are brilliant, I have my gaps in. The ladder slightly slimmer than the plans suggested, catch magpies, crows, rooks and jackdaws a treat, even had a fox in it. Best of luck you should do ok, try put it in position a month before use to get birds used to seeing it.
