Salop Matt
Okay guys what batterys are you all using and whats there performance like ? Also how do you carry your battry when lamping ? As the battery weight on a belt I would imagine would drag your trousers down as you walk ? Over the sholder type sling bag seems most common but I am finding starts to rub on a narrow strap and seems to swing round a bit when crossing obsticals ! I was thinking of some sort of jacket / vest with a small battery each side to evenly spread the load and a pocket to put a knife in and maybe a mixed bottle of water and washing up liquid to rins hands after gutting ! What do you guys use when on foot and not plugged in the motor ?
wymberley
Hi, Yep,I'm pretty sure that we all know where you're coming from. I stopped traipsing around years ago in favour of ambush (we seem to have vermin "hot spots" so we know where we need to be and also there's bits of me that don't work like they should any more). However, excluding the weight problem, there's still cables to trip over and a 170 cannot be classed as compact. If you've got the cash to spare, the weight problem is solved, but even if so there's still the bulk and the damned cable. Consequently, I'm having a look at the LED torches with the integeral batteries and am looking hard at 4 in particular. There's loads out there but if you don't make a decision you'll get nowhere. To be honest and as has been said before, the nature of your question, my indecision and not forgetting the pace of technology in this field, I feel that there is a case on Pigeon Watch for an additional "night vision" forum. Devon Fox
I have a deben double belt pack. It kills your hips after a while so I now shove it in an old back pack and you do not notice your carrying it. I use a small lightforce hand held - no idea how long a battery life this gives me. Normally we are out for about 3 - 3.5 hours and it doesn't fade in the slightest during that time. Backpack is the way forward.
steve42
I use a 12v 7ah sealed battery unit on a shoulder strap with a light force scope mounted 140 find this combo works to good effect , would like a lithium ion battery as they are a lot lighter and would fit in a pocket but couldnt justify the cost . I get a 3 1/2 to 4 hours out of a battery ATB Steve
Dan_Smiff
LF 170 running off a 14 amp battery in a small back pack - although I have the scope mount for the lamp I tend to be with someone so use the handle most of the time. Wookie
I've got a 170, but have never run it of a 12v battery, only from the car supply. But... Have you thought about getting a small rucksack and popping the battery inside that?
Beardo
i mostly lamp from the vehicle with a dim-able handheld LF170, but when on foot generally have a lamp man carrying a 7ah 12v battery (spare in the motor) in a shotgun cartridge shoulder bag (fairly wide strap and perfect size for a 7ah). I do also have a Deben MiniPro (mounts above scope on CF) or an Led Lenser P7 (mounts under moderator on RF) for solo missions

ben0850
I use a Deben tracer max, dimmable scope mounted..I have the battery pack in some old army surplus webbing. Works really well for me as all pouches etc are adjustable so great for ammo, mags, etc
Salop Matt
So how long are these 12V 7 - 12 AH batterys lasting ? and are you on full power or dimmed ?
Devon Fox
Just looked up the spec of mine - double belt pack is 12v 18amp - light is LF 140 - I am easily getting 3.5 hours, and its not even fading in that time, so i would think you could get a lot more out of it
Salop Matt
Hot-Shot , doesnt the weight of that drag your kex down ? lol
Devon Fox
Its all in a backpack as the belt is a waste of time! I just feed enough cable out for the lamp,U caller speaker in the back as well - feed enough cable out so the caller box sits in my left pocket Once its on you dont notice the battery pack etc is even in Me and & pal take in turns as Lamp man - works well
garyb
Backpack for sure... Helps if you can go out as a pair, and have someone else carry it whilst you carry said heavy rifle and sticks :yp:
activeviii
17amp battery in a ruck sack that powers a 240 blitz. no need to worry about water as it adds weight. just carry desposable gloves and a plastic bag to put blooded items in. Bowen20
When I go lamping I use my rotary battery but I put the Deben square plug in thing on all my batteries and lamps so I can switch and change batteries and so on the battery is a yeusa I think. it is a 12v 17 amp lead sealed battery nice and bright beam but I dimm it Down a little it's the dimmable 170 striker with Amber filter lasts quite long around 5 hours but by the end it's noticeably dying. Also I have a camo ruck sack and put the battery in there and it's very nice to carry don't even know your carrying it as weights over both padded shoulder straps n not just over one shoulder with those nice skinny shoulder bags. Salop Matt
Right i`ve been given one of these in apparently brand new condition which i can butcher ! So what I need to do now is either find 2 batterys that can be connected so one could go in each pouch....or... i need to find a way to attach a single battery or a way to canibalise two or three pouches into one big one ! So any ideas would be good ! hopefully one of you resorcefull engineering type folk might be able able to offer some help or ideas !
al4x
If you wire it right you might be able to heat the jacket as well

Salop Matt
I plan to cut all but 2 pockets off each side and the belt and hoops ! Maybe cut all lower pouches off and add onto each side a respirator pouch as i herd of others on here using them to! seems a waste to not make use of something given for free! but how could get the bags stitched on or attached? Salop Matt
A bit like this : http://www.shootinguk.co.uk/accessories/272368/Orvis_shooting_waistcoat.html But without a £99 price tag and weight over the shoulders better ! highseas
before i seen the light and now use a quad for all my lamping we used to cut the base off a big milk bottle so it was 6-8inch high then cun 2 slits in the small sides and thred a old seatbelt thrue and under it and sew it closed at the bottom we used to carry a big 12v 15a motobike battery with this no problems! and because the seat belt was wide it never dug in.. we also after a while got a webbing strap off a sheep wormer bottle and used that as a belt with it to stop it flapping around
bullet boy
I use a Deben Lithium ION 12v 22ah battery with my Lightforce SL170 Striker scope mounted Lamp. This battery is nothing short of superb! It does cost a bit but in my mind it's money well spent. It is also a lot lot lighter in weight than your average battery plus it's got a power gauge to let you know when it needs topping up!! As for the Striker lamp IMO is the best scope mounted lamp available.

Norrie
Hiya, I'm using a LF 170 Striker Gun Mounted lamp, tho usually it's worked by a mate..I have a Clulite shoulder bag for the 2x6v 10 amp Clulite batteries...now, the bag is great bit of kit, big wide strap, makes it effortless to wander about all night with it..I used to get a couple or three hours out the batteries, but it's starting to last only an hour, ( if i'm lucky) so now, I use a Golf Caddy 12v battery, which ( when needed) can even start my V6 Mitsy...:)That hasnt been charged up since before Xmas.. I'd love to get a lithium battery, but the amount of time I'd use it, compared with the expense doesnt justify it for me.. Mibbes for my Birthday...
