garyb
Guys, I've bought a Meopta 7x50 for my 22lr from one of the members on 'ere (Great scope by the way) In anticipation I purchased some Leupold High rimfire rings to mount directly onto the 11mm dovetail on my rifle (Krico) I'm a big fan of Leupold mounts, and a quality scope deserves to be sat in quality rings! The problem is, even with High mounts the objective bell just about rests on the barrel... unfortunately Leupold do not make Super-High rings that would fit my setup... What could I do to ensure that the scope fits securely in the rings, and yet doesn't touch the barrel? Some kind of shim - although this seems like a bit of a bodge! I probably only need about about 1-2mm of clearance! Edited March 12, 2011 by garyb
lincs1963
Hello mate, I had a similar problem and I cut strips from a coke cane and made it into shims, I then layered them up until it gave me about 1mm of clearance. It worked fine and you can't tell they are in there. ATB, Neil.

garyb
Did you shim under the mount, or between the scope and ring?
Dekers
I think I would be tempted to look for different mounts!
seeker
'just about rests' .. but not touching? isint that the ideal?
lincs1963
Did you shim under the mount, or between the scope and ring? Cut them to fit under the scope, inside the mounts. Been in there almost a year now and still kept it's zero so not been a problem.
bruno22rf
I,ve allways used an empty 12 gauge cartridge case-just cut a section out the length of the mount then cut the "ring" in half then cut one of the pieces in two -pop one piece under the scope and bobs your wossisname. bennyblanco
I wouldn't do it my self but if you go to a model shop they sell sheets of brass shim, you can cut it with scissors and it available in various thickness's. The packs look like this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Brass-sheet-010-x-4-x-10-/110627774324 Edited March 13, 2011 by bennyblanco
garyb
To be honest, I've decided to return the rings - and will now look for something else more suitable I just hope the competition are as good!
