Lightforce sl170 with variable brightness on the beam. Brilliant beam and very handy to have the dimmer but it is optional and costs around an extra £30 if u you wanted it on they retail for around £138.00 with the dimmer or around £107.00 without. They are brilliant lamps and last ages I've had mine maybe 3 years now and not had to do anything to it not even replace the bulb. Oh and the beam goes around 400+ yards. Atb with your choice.

Does anyone use a lightforce with dimmer without the filter with much success? i use mine with the red filter but knocks the stuffing out of the useable light so i`m thinking of trying just white light.

I use a scope mounted 170 with dimmer. It works well without a filter because when it's turned down low the light is amber / orange anyway, and it doesn't spook rabbits.

My (left handed ) method as follows. The dimmer / on switch is on the cable and can be velcrod to the stock but I shoot off a bipod so the dimmer goes in my right hand under the rifle butt. I scope the area with a Gen1 Merlin fitted with 80mW laser, when I see shine I move the rifle to the approximate direction and switch the lamp on but dimmed down to min, which if affectively off, it makes a quiet high-pitched whine but the rabbits ignore it. I turn the dimmer up slowly and the light is very orange. Rabbit eyes reflect orange back quite well. Now I can see the rabbit and get the rifle on him and the crosshairs roughly correct, then I wind the dimmer up until I can see the crosshairs clearly enough and take the shot.

The 140 is the equivilant of the Deben Max, you can get a whole package of lamp, scope mount, dimmer, battery, belt pack, charger, cigarette adapter...did I miss something, for about £100 if you shop around..Deben Max PRO kit!

I don't see the point of the 140, Deben package wins every time in my book.

The 170 is a different proposition, it is more powerful and does have a decent range, because of it's power I would suggest the dimmer is almost essential.

Any Coloured filter you may fit, especially the red ones, cuts down the range dramatically!

Lightforce do not make lamps with dimmers, its deben that put the dimmers in and sell them on. i spoke to lightforce about this a short while ago and they assured me that lightforce have never made a lamp with a dimmer,

if you dont have a dimmer then contact clulite as they do add on's that work with the 100watt bulb of the 170 and 240 lightforce. you can stock mount the dimmer as its like the deben one.

i use a 240 hand held for foxing and i did use a tracer max pro for rabbits on the rimfire but im selling that one now.

the 240 is a bit clumsy but lamps well with the dimmer i have fitted and i have changed the bulb to a 75watt which gives me more lamping time on the battery.
