NickP
I been looking at the silver pig 1 today, sporter out of stock but they had a game version The sporter is heavier with a wider bead, on the beretta website the game is lighter, but they have different chokes. Whats the difference between Beretta multichoke on the sporter and the optichoke flush on the game?? Got me thinking as a website says the game is suitable for both game and sport (and is £100 cheaper) Edited March 31, 2011 by NickP
Spiderdude
They have them in stock at Gilsan...
NickP
Cheers Thinking with swillington been virtually on my door step and I'll buy cartridges there etc, service might be better if I need it looking at and his about £100 cheaper, if it's still 4 weeks wait I'm not going to have much chance in the next 4 weeks anyway with hols etc, He has said he'll help mark my shooting glasses to help with left eye dominance too, if I go right-handed which I am virtually sure I am going too
Spiderdude
Fair enough... I've bought my carts at Redbeck in Wakefield... Very cheap compared with other places I looked.

Spiderdude
Seems my purchase of the Sporter was a good decision. My thoughts were that this gun would never see a field only clays. If I get into game shooting, the I will purchase something appropriate to that. Thanks for publishing that extract, makes good reading. NickP
Cheers for the right up and review Placed my order for a silver pig 1 sporter today, a little heavier but if I ever go game shooting I will be carrying a little more weight but still a good gun Sporting guns review says a gunsmith should be able to convert to auto safety quite easily too

NickP
Yes decided to go right handed, and see how things go, try the aids like beads, glasses etc I suppose if I was getting into this sport to compete I would have looked at it differently, but I'm in it for the enjoyment and if I miss a few clays so be it
The Duncan
Shooting for enjoyment? Whatever next?
HDAV
Yes decided to go right handed, and see how things go, try the aids like beads, glasses etc I haven't seen you shoot, but having been through it, I can shoot of either shoulder now, life is much easier with both eyes open not worrying about spots dots and squinting
Spiderdude
Shot my Silver Pig for first time today on my lesson. Loved it, felt just right... Lesson was also very good as well, can't state how important I feel lessons are. I am finding with expert tutoring my shooting is coming on leaps and bounds. But big thumbs up on the new silver pigeon sporter.
Thunderbird
Glad to hear it spidey, the oil finish on the wood is ace too isn't it? It's a cracking looking piece and as Beretta Italy says, no problem to use it in the field for a range of shooting, it's steel and magnum proofed too, though I think Beretta say don't go beyond M choke for steel. I love mine.
Spiderdude
Glad to hear it spidey, the oil finish on the wood is ace too isn't it? Oil finish looks nice till you get caught in the rain, then it's absolutely rubbish!!!!
Spara Dritto
Yea I think I’m on my 10 coat of wax or so and its come up beautifully. Looks very deep and vibrant plus protects the wood like you wouldn’t believe compared to the oil.
Thunderbird
Beretta Italy, what wax are you using on it?
Spiderdude
Did you remove the oil finish or put the wax on over the oil? I've just got some Birchwood Casey Gun Stock wax to put on.
Spara Dritto
It's called "Maylands traditional wax polish" No I went straight over the oiled wood. Not had any problems and oil over the metal parts every time I clean it.

Spiderdude
Did you manage to do the fore end as well or did you leave that alone? Just looking at the amount of chequering on it!!
Spara Dritto
To be honest, I gave the WHOLE thing 2 complete coats to protect everything now just put it around the chequering as I don’t want to block it up. Just be careful about applying it, if anything gets on or in the chequering just simply pick it out with a wooden tooth pick. It's no biggie if you get it on there, It will take loads of coats to make the chequering disappear that you will be bored of waxing by then you'd give up!
