Matt Gould
hello everyone just wondering if any one can answere my question what ive been meaning to ask for a while but keep forgetting does any one know why colored filters work for spooky rabbits because after all from i have read and hurd rabbits only see in black and white so why are the affective, if its for making the light more duller, then why not get a lamp dimmer instead of filters ? UKPoacher
Rabbits only have limited colour discrimination and that is centred around the blue / green area of the spectrum. Whether they can actually see red light is immaterial. They don't react to it like they do a white light. If you put a red filter over a camera lens the camera needs four times the exposure than without the filter. Red lenses absorb a lot of light an so you would need a lamp four times brighter if fitted with a red filter to get the same output as a white light. Dekers
Rabbits react or not as the case may be, to what they are used to ..or not used to...if you shoot in a field next to a bend in a motorway and they are used to headlights then an ordinary "white" light will work fine! Some people/rabbits favour one colour or another for whatever reason, but shoot heavily and use it a lot and they will learn! I gave up with ALL colour filters a few years back and just make appropriate use of the dimmer!

Paddy Galore!
the general idea is to confuse the rabbit, once they cotton on that they're getting shot at with a white lamp, then change to red, then green, then back to white, if you alternate the light colour they don't seem to connect the lamp with imminent death in my experience. stubby
if you alternate the light colour they don't seem to connect the lamp with imminent death in my experience. no animal could, as if its hit, its dead, so could not connect with imminent death, if you miss, it runs because of the noise, I dont think the rabbits thinks, $hite, I escaped imminent death just then
