Ferretboy111
Am tying to resurrect an old converted chainsaw which has been used as a ratting smoker before but am not having much luck, going to strip it tonight and hope that if i can clean the **** out of it it should hopefully work, i mean theres compression, it sparks a treat, so the only real thing is the fuel flow. Ferretboy111
well i gave the whole thing a massive clean, cleaned the carb everything was thick with grease and saw dust, took the fuel filter off the end of the petrol line which was clogged with **** aswel, then thankgod after some more tweeking with the carb fuel mixture screw ive managed to get it working, so defintately was something to do with the fuel, as in it wasnt getting in because of the blockages throughout. i want to get it to smoke more but i havent a clue how to make it, so ill have a ponder and change it abit. Hunter
As said above, for more smoke, just add a little 2 stroke oil to the fuel. Not too much though.. and make sure you take the spark plug and clean it well now and then, as it will foul up due to large amounts of oil, and this may lead to starting problems.. a small wire brush every now and then will do the trick
Ferretboy111
Went out with it the other day but without any success, i could see thick smoke pouring out of all the holes, but not a rat in sight. could this be because there isnt any or do they take an age to appear? Natures_son
The way to do it is put the hose down and just let it tick over until the first rat bolts then. rev it up to full and others should follow.
craftycarper
best way to get a lot of smoke out of it is to spill a bit of petrol all over the outside of it then strike a match..will smoke like hell.......
Teal
For every rat which bolts you probably kill another 3 or 4 underground, if you had it going like the clappers you could have killed the lot of them under the ground if they were in there! crocket
Hi all I have had a thought about this ratting and chainsaw business I've considered using a 12v airbed pump ( not a tyre inflator - no volume of air) and a piece of flexi plastic pipe with a metal tube on the end, along with my battery from the magent. Setting light to an oily cloth or similar then letting the pump blow the smoke down the rat hole. It seems a bit quiter than the engine and a lot less expense. WOT YOUR THOUGHTS Cheers Crocket
al4x
probably won't put a high enough volume of smoke in fast enough. You just can't beat a chainsaw or strimmer engine. Though we used to use an old landrover which worked well
