coneyhunter
Hello all, i have seen a hatsan escort magnum auto in my local gunshop, its retailing for £295 and is second hand but appears to be in good nick, i have a few questions ... Is it the same basic model as the Webley 812? as i found my one to be problematic and slighlty awkward, is it as reliable as its made out to be? easily cycling 24G cartridges? How much do they retail for new and what do i get with a new gun? all opinions appreciated
Spiderdude
Brand new for a little bit more... The Countryman in Derby has some good deals and they have the new 2011 version in stock.
semiautolee
in the region of £350 brand new. you will get 5 chokes, choke key, stock exstensions and stock spacers along with 3 years warranty stay away from the side buttoned ones for loading carts nothing but a pain in the harse..make sure its a model from 2009 onwards Edited April 12, 2011 by semiautolee
J@mes
type +hatsan +escort in to the search and look at the 28 pages of results! Only thing I would say is to get the ones which have the curved butt plates as they appear to be more reliable compared to the straight butted ones, and if you can get one which automatically releases the gate for loading carts into the mag then that is better to as holding the button to feed the gate is a bit of a faff
coneyhunter
£ 350? that seems incredible value - surely at that price there must be a catch? if not im going to have to ask why i havent bought one before
sitsinhedges
If you're going to buy one, at least make sure it is new with the 3yr guarantee.

Mark-70
I really wanted one of these, right up until my mate bought one! Jammed on feeding 1 out of 3 cartridges every time, dealers gunsmith checked it over and couldnt find a fault with it. Was told it needed at least 70mm cases to cycle correctly but made no difference. Got rid! Spoke to another dealer who couldnt understand it as he had sold loads with no problems whatsoever, I have to say I have read many more good reviews than bad so put it down to being unlucky really. coneyhunter
james thats the exact problem i had with the 812, it was very fiddly to eject unfired shells when i wanted to make it safe, dont know whether or not that was the mdoel i had though, i hear the escorts have a cartridge seperator so i can easily eject live shells

You get more good reviews from actual owners, even compared to the people who say "well my dads mates brothers sons uncles sisters wife had one and it was rubbish" which is the normal line on PW! coneyhunter
thats reassuring. it did my head in on th 812, having to pull the slide back 6 times to eject 3 shells, was a pain in the bum when i wanted to change shells quickly, was the main reason i sold it to be honest. wasnt the 812 manufactured for Webley by Hatsan? Spot on I have an FAC version, it even has the fiddly button - but once you are versed in loading it, not a problem - simples! Took it rabbiting from a pick up at the Weekend, shot 25 rabbits with zero jamming, never had an issue with it using 70mm shells (before the usual whingers start -do they expect to be able to run petrol in a derv car? ) I would advise buying new - so you get the excellent warranty (which I havent needed in 5 Year Ownership) Edited April 12, 2011 by Devon Fox
Mark-70
Hmm dont remember saying it was rubbish, I said he was unlucky and had a faulty one. And ownership is of no relevance to how the gun behaves, I was there at the time and if he had sold me the gun I would of owned it and im sure it would have done the same thing. Most reviewers dont own the item they are reviewing it is only an opinion and usualy a personal one at that, and I think Coneyhunter said all opinions appreciated. Maybe I read it wrong though. phaedra1106
Had mine since early 2007, no complaints at all, I have no problem loading it using the button, seems perfectly natural after a few times I also have the Silver Select OU, it's a very nice gun

coneyhunter
Mark you are correct mate, all opinions wanted...its sounding like a very wise investment for me indeed, just out of interest, i have been led to beleive tht i can purchase a 3 1/2 inch magnum version, this would be handy for me as i may start wildfowling, will this version work with lighter cartridges? vampire
I have owned 2 now,the first was a turkish walnut and was brilliant gun,i now have a syn black one which is for sale £200 (bought in a deal for a pair),both the guns are the curved but and button release cartridge gate which you do get used to but my mate had a brand new one which was quicker and easier to load. I think you get 3 marks of these guns, the first was a square but plate, the second was a curved with button release (my gun) and the third is curved but and no button, and the newer the model the better imho
Mark-70
Yea as said, I really like them and for the money you simply can't go wrong in my opinion. Im still tempted to get one for the money. Just think my mate was unlucky with his, also should have mentioned it was second hand and not a new one when it was bought.
