"Best" is subjective and will depend on the shooter and the discipline.

I guess you'll get lot's of opinion.

However, if your new and a sensible price is a factor, maybe you could try Eley First 7 1/2, IMO

What's best for me, Gamebore Blue Diamond 8's 28gF

Good luck, it's addictive :good:

PS. Don't try the ones that have no shot in them, I've tried them loads of times, well everytime, and they never break the clays

You will not doubt get many replies saying which is the best cartridge to use as it can be down to personal preferance and also if you are using a semi auto as some semi's don't like low load cartridges.

My own preferance is for Hull Comp X 21G fibre or plastic wad depending on any ground restrictions on wads. After them it wuld be the 28G version, this is because they have very little recoil, so you won't get the thump on the shoulder like some other cartridges can give you.

Any that you can get hold of consistently. I used to shoot hull pro one and sovereigns but trying to get Hull near me now is impossible so I switched to Eley superb as I can get hold of them. Most of the major brands have a good starter cartridge just see what is in good supply in your area.

I don't think there are any really poor cartridges nowadays.

But obviously popularity will depend upon price and distribution in your local area. A good rule of thumb is to see what is the most common cartridge case lying on the floor at your local shoot.

The Italians appear to be the World leaders in cartridge manufacture, you won't go far wrong with RC, B&P,Mirage,Fiocchi or Victory from Cyprus.

Why not British? Because they are ripping us off. How come the Italians can export to the UK and still be cheaper than British cartridges and often better quality?

Italians cheaper! you won,t find many 28 grm Rc's under £200 per thousand and won't find many eley or gamebore over £200

Hull Comp X 21g or 28g. Very low recoil but fast and both will kill any target to 65yds with no problems. AND CHEAP. :good:

The new Hull Prosports in 7S + 8s if your really keen. A low recoil fast mutant DTL300 with 5% antimony make the shot very hard so will kill at rediculous ranges as we have proved. And a good price.

Coach out of interest, how do you find the Prosport in comparison with the Pro One (I'm assuming you've shot the Pro One)?

I like the Hull Comp X 28g fibre and the gf uses them in 21g.

I hate the Eley Firsts with quite some passion - they must be really soft lead and make the gun filthy - takes 5 times as long to clean the gun. The shooting I enjoy, not the cleaning.

Anything you can get at a good price will do a beginner, but check what the local grounds will allow - some are fibre wads only. No good if you've just bought 1000 plastic wads!

They're not the cheapest but I've been using Hull Sovereign 24g/28g plastic wads and I'm very happy with them. A good friend has suggested that I try out Fiocchi but not sure which one. I occasionally use Gamebore Black Gold but find them a little punchy and the Sovereigns more comfortable.

I've never thought about reloading my own but I would imagine if you're going to do that, it would be best to try a variety of 'pre-loaded' cartridges to identify the characteristics you like/don't like.

I think the choice depends on what kind of shooting you're doing and how many you're putting through the barrels in a day. I can end up going through 3-500 in a day so am usually looking for comfort without sacrificing performance.
