Pheasant Feeder
Like the idea, thought about making one for myself just not got around to it yet. As for improvements, Agree about MDF very unstable in damp conditions use WBP either veneered for the expensive look or with a durable coating for a utility look. Don't forget to pre drill holes for screws prevents spliting. I'd look to have 2 drawers one for drinks etc. the other for gear. The door opening upward might be rather annoying if parked on an incline (keep closing on you). I'd put sides on for strength and possibly use the side spaces for gun storage. Drawer runners would be better than loose fit drawers, and a flusher drawer pull to prevent damage as already suggested. Consider putting rubber feet underneath to prevent it sitting in wet conditions. Also a rubber mat on the top to prevent a dog box or other gear marking or sliding about. Like the idea of felt lined adds a touch of quality but on a utility version perhaps foam similar to the hard rifle cases might be more appealing and less fiddly. As for cost you need to price materials and your time to make and the cost of selling either advertising or the cost of travel and stall at a game fair. But for a utility version if you could produce it and be able to make a profit selling them for around £300 in dimensions that fit all the common pick ups you might make a go of it. The up market version depending on finish quality hardware etc then £500-£600 wouldn't be out of the way. Hope that helps.

archi
I made one for me RR out of walnut MDF and i think after having it cut to size and edged etc the the MDF cam eto around £300 - £400 from memory. It does fit virtually all the real boot florr space with a full size full length drawer. IOt then has a timberbuilt plastic twin dog box on top. I think I needed to order 2 full sheets to get all the correct sized panels cut to size required. I can get in drawers a oak gun case, leather walking books, gaiters, waterprrof trousers, gloves, cap, scarf, sunglasses, Bottle of port & 12 tumblers together with water for the dogs, and some other small items Does look rather good I must say bit was rather pricey. Obviously if you have got the fine cust saw machines etc then you can just buy the sheets and cut and glue the edging on them yourself. Apply the veneer edgings is a slow process as you have to trim them back once the glue has set after being ironed on. Regards arhi

poontang
the only thing mdf is good for is nothing i cant think of one use for it just like that chip bord use ply its alot better Nothing wrong with MDF. Use the moisture resistant stuff, make sure all edges are sealed (using MDF edge sealer ) and paint/lacquer to your requirements. Simples. gamekeeper1960
Another vote for a utility version, with a good set of locks from me As I'd be worried about any bumps, bangs or scratches an Oak vaneer one would get in the back of my hilux Another vote for utility and how about covering it in ali checker plate. nabbers
I'm a Joiner with a workshop and keep thing about making stuff for shooters, some ideas; Reloading benches, with a hole to sweep all the mistakenly dropped shot into a tray below and a well placed rack for components. Powder storage cases. Sleeves for metal gun cabinets to make them look more like a piece of furniture. Pattens for Wildfowlers. well designed kennels for gun dogs with...................... seperate game larder and log store! A well made box like the OP prototype could sell for a grand if it looks like real wood and feels like quality, but guys with pickups go for more rugged stuff than the RangeRover crews, so checker plate would be good!
