Mickthemiller
During the next couple of weeks I am having a replacement hip operation and naturally I am concerned that this may drastically affect my shooting ability, I am wondering if any other readers have had the operation, and how it affected them. I have carried on shooting with the problem hip and must say on some days it was difficult but on the good days it was fine Many thanks MicktheMiller

BerettaSV10
From experiance it can depend on the hospital, and who's doing the op on how long the recovery is. Worth finding out who the surgon and their / hospitals reputation.
berties
My mother had her second one 7 weeks ago,and was in so much pain before the op 3 days in hospital ,she now has no pain and walks for a hour at present and that grows every week ,3 months and you are able to do every thing again, listen to the consultant and follow the physios instructions, maybe ask him to give you exercises to help your stance for shooting, I am off shooting for a month due to nerve damage and soft tissue damage in my back after a car accident ,and the physio is helping to get me shoot fit, After your op you will not know yourself, hope you get on well
Kes
Hi - good luck. I know a few people who have had this done, one hip then the next, some one knee and then the next - it requires hard work to become fully fit again from what I can see, but you should be back at it for the new season later this year. Take the consultants/physios advice and most of all, as others have said - get a good consultant surgeon and talk to him before the op. Cheers. Tell us how you get on. mudpatten
You do realise that you`re supposed to put the gun to your shoulder not your... Seriously though, I`ve not had that op. myself but I do know a number of people who have had a hip replacement, one of them a double, and it has given them a new lease of life. In these cases, one a woman of eighty two, I`ve been amazed at how quickly they have been back on their feet after the op. The old girl, my wife`s grandmother, who eventually died when she was 100, was running for a bus, quite literally, within months of the op. Good luck with the surgery. JonD
I know a guy in his 70's that has had both hips and both knees done and still shoots at a high level, absolutely inspirational. Good luck with the OP and best wishes for a speedy recovery Jon.
39TDS
My aunt had hers done. She works on the farm with us and would put most folk to shame with the work she does.
