blacky
I have just started shooting but have a diary and it's good to look back and see what the weather etc was like
Pheasant Feeder
Yes kept one for about 4 years, usually include companions, location and bag but also a write up of the day including any memorable shots by fellow guns or outstanding work by any of the dogs. I also include weather not just on the day but if for example the preceeding week had been wet or severely cold, and how the birds flew or were holding in relation to weather. wy111
Although a part time, single handed keeper, I have kept records on everything, from vermin disposed, daily corn used, cart's counted(Sweep on collected at end of day), No. of shots on different drives, weather conditions on the day, since I took over(Several years ago) and others. It is not only a record of what is shot, but it is a good insight to how things are changing, which they do, from year to year. Which way did the birds try to fly? Where to put flags/stops. Strange how a drive can change from year to year, 1 year a belter, the next, poor. ALL records help in some way, and those that have been doing it for much longer than I, I think will testify. cockercas
I think when you get your first gun a game dairy should be purchased aswell. I also record weather conditions and other things. Helps to plan future trips. I have my dads game dairy and have brought my son one (their all the same so they match) so if he takes up shooting he can look back over 2 generations
ollie
I don't have a diary as such. I created an excel document on the laptop which I record everything that is shot on every outing. I have done it since 05 and it's nice to look back on.
winchester12
I keep one and have done for 11 years now. I record everything about the day including the number of shots fired and the catridge used. Its interesting to total the number of shots youve fired over a year.
alfa taf
I have kept a diary for well over forty years. Reading back , not only brings back memories of all sorts of happy days but serves well with all the information of weather conditions of the time , places I shot at etc. The only thing that saddens me , is the fact that as I do manly rough shooting , every year the quarry one meets is getting less and less . Beardo
Here's a copy of my Excel spreadsheet - it has space for most things you should need and keeps a tally of totals, I've included some examples to show how it works, and you can edit the quarry to suit your needs... http://www.filehosting.org/file/details/225552/Shooting_Tally.xls
