utectok
Ok gun was not discharging thought it was the trigger or hammer replaced tigger group but it turns out it is the piston jamming in the cylinder stoping the bolt going all the way home. It seems there is a ring in the cylinder that cockles under gas load and jamms the piston on return. I have looked on the parts list and can't seem to find a new ring listed does this mean I have to get the entire barrel? The gas cylinder is welded to the barrel I think. I was hoping to just replace ring in the cylinder and piston an maybe mainspring. Anyone got any ideas? steve_b_wales
I've got an Escort, but reading your post, I'm not sure what you mean? The piston jamming in the cylinder? It will only jam if it's full of muck, caused by the gases from spent cartridges. Ring in the cylinder? Not too sure about that. 'Cockles' under gas load? The 'gas cylinder is welded to the barrel'? I think your shotgun needs a full strip down and a good and thorough clean. Mine is stripped down fully after about 100 cartridges have been fired. If you are not sure how to do it correctly, either get a friend who does, or take it to your local RFD for a good service. Steve.
utectok
Pretty sure it's not that as the gas is cockling the steel ring on the action side of the cylinder so the seal must be good on the other?
utectok
Ok if you take out the piston and look in the cylinder you will notice a ridge inside that is actually a ring posted in that normally never moves. taken the gun to bits and it's clean as a whistle

utectok
I've striped the whole action including the bolt and removed all burred edges on the metal work. Replaced the o ring and trigger group.
utectok
Get rid of it....................for your daughters sake! I know nice left handed 20 OU on guntrader for £350! But I don't like being beaten by these things !!
poontang
I know nice left handed 20 OU on guntrader for £350! But I don't like being beaten by these things !! Yeah, I was only joking. If it becomes a regular problem, best to get rid though. I had a Remi 1100 until recently, lovely gun and so well balanced and pointable, but let me down a couple of times too many and it had to go. Once you lose confidence in a gun it's never the same again.
blister
have u cleaned the gas ports out the 2 little holes as you say the metal ring on the barrel they need to be cleaned reg if they are blocked up the gasses will not get through to in gauge the next shell hope that helps you out
utectok
Other thing is it's not saleable at the mo. So I'd be taking a £250 hit and spending too. If I have to buy a new barrel I'll be seriously considering binning it !
utectok
Yes gas ports clear as I say it's the ring shifting I know you all don't belive me but look at your gun if there is no sort of step ridge in the cylinder let me know because maybe I can bin the ring?! blister
i have the same gun as you if the gas ports are cleaned just change the o ring i had the same prob once were the o ring got very hot and it was coming over the piston i found out that the 0 ring with the heat was expanding to much just change the 0 ring go to your local plumbers shop 5p each dont shot it with out the 0 ring as really its there to protect the cylinder the 0 ring only needs a little nick in it for it to expand to much
