chrispti
I know the RLC get some real earache with names like: Realy large Corps, Recruits Last Choice, Recruits Last Chance etc, But . . . . This is where a heck of alot of EOD ATO`s come from and when all the others have backed off to a safe distance these guys and girls suit up and go forward and work on IED` and unexploded munitions. Also the sigs gang as they go forward with the ATO`s and provide ECM cover also. So hats off to them. I also work in this field so maybe I am a bit Biassed Well said. I joined the RAOC as an ammunition technician (AKA Albert Tatlock, bullet mechanic, rocket doctor) and left the RLC as an ATO some 23 years later with a few tours as a high threat IEDD operator under my belt. NI was my bomb disposal playground but I reckon we had it a lot easier than those doing the same job in Afghan. Respect. Did a tour with 321 EOD @ Belfast Det in 2000-2001. One of the best tours I did Was an eye opener to say the least

One of the best tours I did Was an eye opener to say the least  Bleep or infantry escort? Girdwood Park or Palace Barracks? I did "a few" tours with 321, first as a Cpl No2 in Bessbrook in 86 and last as a SSgt Operator in Omagh in 94. Did a later tour as a WO in WIS in 98 before I commissioned. Also did time in 521 and 621 EOD Sqns.

Was the Tavern driver for the infantry escort and the No2's, No2 if you like, used to suit the boss up and do the re-configure of the wheelbarrow for a ''WRAP'' if it was needed. Had a good range day with WIS, got to play with lots of toys
Blunderbuss
Our range days were legendary! Thompsons with 50 round drums, 12.7mm DShK and Barrett .50s down in the Hollow FFA at Ballykinler. Happy days!
Zapp
I was in B'fast and Lisburn at the same time as you Chris, and I was in and out of Girdwood all the time... Also remember WIS range days very fondly Blunderbuss, yhpm

Zapp
Speaking of which Chris, dont suppose you recall a Mondeo estate coming into Girdwood with front and rear windscreens put through? If you do, I was the driver. There was a bit of a mini-riot taking place on one of the approaches to the gate and the the Ops Rm at GWD got which way was safe and which way wasnt 100% wrong and sent us right into the middle of it I dont know who was more surprised as we came round the corner into them, the local louts or us

Andysniper
YORKSHIRE REGT gents we all know that the best soldiers are the infantry as we are at the fore front of soldiering and thats where all the action takes place at the sharp end also just look where all the cuts are been made its not the infantry its all the corps. GONE ARE THE DAYS OF YOUR NI,BOSNIA,BALKAND TOUR peace support ops its now all out war fighting as for your iedd operators its the infantry that find the ieds for the iedd teams and secures the area so he his in a very secure area to dispose of the ied
Zapp
The infantry do their job very well, but so do the soldiers in the Corps. I dont think it is fair to say they are poorer quality just because they are not doing a particular job. Like Chris said earlier, it is all a big machine that would grind to a halt without its constituent parts.
