BASC Goshooting

Recommended Posts

I check this website on a regular basis and it seems to have become pretty much stagnant. There haven't been any new shooting opportunities added for at least 2 months in the NI region, and after checking up on other regions it seems to be the same scenario. There is a company that sells large plastic ice cream cones advertised under shooting opportunities? Are ice cream cones legal quarry now :hmm:

The other scheme started by BASC when they joined up with the UFU also seems to be fruitless. I as well as 3 other people I know have heard nothing since it's introduction. Was it BASC's way of obtaining information on types of firearms held by people?

I'd be interested to know what other people have experienced using the Go Shooting scheme, and what the NI contingent thinks of the BASC's union with the UFU to help farmers contact shooters. I'd love to know of any farmers that are finding it hard to contact responsible shooters for pest control. I asked 20 farmers 3 days ago and 19 of them said they already had shooters on their land? It's likely that was the case, but where are all these farmers who are having difficulty with vermin? Has the driving force behind these schemes ran out of fuel?

I've made use of go shooting to good effect, I found the syndicate with whom I have shot this season, so a thumbs up from me.

I also have been keeping an eye on the offering, but only looking at the Northern region. I would agree that the listings do seem stagnant, but can't see how BASC can be blamed for that. I would guess that as the shooting season comes to an end and syndicates need to replenish members who leave we may well see an increase in listings.

I do feel that some of the listings could be more informative, as with some listings its not clear what is on offer; ie clays, driven pheasant, walked up, wildfowling, rifle range, etc. Certainly room for improvement, but handy none the less.
