Simon123
Personally in may or june i like to go out at about 6pm until after sundown and hoope for a good session, and fair play, i do get good result's at those times . Also over the summer i don't bother with lamping as i see it too light so when you enter the field the rabbit's see you and their away, but i only use a shotgun, but only for now, maybe if i had a 22 or a HMR, maybe i would go out as i'd have the extra distance to drop them
TaxiDriver
On my permission the rabbits are not showing until about 7.30 in the evening but only then in limited numbers until it starts getting darker, but theyre very skitish, I can't get within 100yrds usually. Catweazle
Whatever time dusk is, that's the time to be getting there and set up. The stupid baby bunnies will be out a bit earlier, sitting by the hedge on the side of the field trying to pluck up the courage to go further. abadshot
I got to my permission about 19:30 this evening and there were at least a dozen about until I started shooting, after that it was just the odd one or two coming out.
Frenchieboy
I don't bother lamping rabbits in summer time! To me the most pleasurable time and way to shoot rabbits during the summer is in the evening when you can lie up and snipe them when they emerge from their burrows, there is very little walking involved and you can set up and just lie there with a cold can or two - Mind you, I'm just a lazy old *** and if I can avoid walking I will! wymberley
Whenever you're on the farm without a gun. Is'nt that the truth!!!?

drut
I find bunnies often out & about mid afternoon in some spots where they get little disturbance but in others see little till right on dusk.I also find it wise to vary my shooting times in areas I regularly shoot:they learn quick. Gimlet
Hi all I know this has been done loads but what the hell I have tried searching and still no wiser, Im wondering time of the day/night are you bagging the most bunnys in may/june. I know curently sun set is approx 9pm is this a good time or should i just be lamping them after dark. thanks in advise john Different groups of rabbits have different habits so spend some time observing to learn what they're doing. If they're sheltered or in the shade of tall trees they could be out at any time, though exposed buries are best at dawn and dusk. I'm mostly shooting juveniles and just mopping up adults at this time of year so I'm ambushing. The key is set up early and be patient. Where nettles and crops are high I tuck myself into the weeds on one of those folding swivel stools and shoot of a short hazel stick. A .17hmr is too noisey for this though, they soon learn the meaning of that crack so I use a .22lr. They like to feed on the sheltered side of hedges as well so bear the wind direction in mind. If I've got a group that feed at dusk I'll set out at 6:00 pm aiming to get there for seven and on the way walk up some other groups that appear earlier. I'd leave the lamping now, over crops at least, until after the harvest. Still effective on grazed pasture though, if you get a night that's dark enough. What is good at this time of year is a sudden shower of rain after a long dry spell; brings them out in hordes as soon as the rain stops. Kidney505
I usually go out around 5 and find a fel adults out but mostly only juveniles. 18:00 onwards is best for me. (The rabbits on my permission have recently been hevily culled by various methods and any that survived are the most skitish I have ever seen so I'm going to have t wait till the dozens of juveniles grow up :( )
