ollie
I presume you mean snares . Before you even set a snare make sure you know your ground well and you are sure of your pads (i.e. fox, badger, rabbit etc). Then set the snare on the pad and have it anchored down (usually a post driven into the ground and the snare tied around it), the snare height depends on which animal you are targeting, i.e. a fox snare will need to be set about 8-12" off the ground. The snare can be held in place with a hazel stick with a slight split on the top to hold the snare. You then need to be checking your snares at least once every 24 hours. I never set snares under fences as a fox can hang itself on the fence and also it can wreck the farmers fence.
Grandalf
Only use a snare if nothing else will work. Un-selective of quarry. I do use them but I don't like them.

CZ550Kevlar
I hate snares any found are destroyed by request of my landowners, seen too many badgers and other animals caught and distressed.
henry d
No mention of jumps to stop deer getting in them, stops ? Breakaways ?
cockercas
Henry d expand. Ther is some stops on the snares to stop them tighting right up so if a deer stood on one its leg could come out
