Pellets, pellets and pellets?!?

Right I may be posting something that has already been brought up and I'm most certainly stepping in to a mine field but here goes...

Personally I shoot Webely accu pell through a S400 and get very good restuts but I have a few questions:

1) Are Webley Acuu pell and Crossman Premier (Ultra magnum) the same pellet?

2) How to JSB exact compare with Accu pell

3) AA fields any good? - I heard they have quite thin skirts and have quite a few damged ones per tub and at £11 a pop there not cheap.

4) If you own a S400 what do you find work well with it?

1. Yes

2. Little to choose between them. I personally favour JSB because they are softer so are better for hunting , but it is marginal.

3. Softer pellets like AA Field and JSB Exacts do suffer from rough handling. If you buy from JSR and find the batch faulty they will replace no questions asked.

1) NO not in .177 Webley Accu Pell are a 7.9g pellet and Crossman Premier (Ultra magnum)are a 10.5g pellet,

made by the same company but not the same pellet.

ive been using mosquito express .177 and think they are a flat and fast shooting pellet. Good grouping also but as lots will say not all guns like the same pellet you will have to try them to see what works best in your gun. Sorry meant to say thats with my aa s400.

Fair point. I failed to notice the Ultra Magnum part of his question.

For non FAC in .22 or .177 I'm in love with Promethius Defiants, they come in different sizes to match your barrel and are really well made.

AA fields are my second choice. You can get them in a heavier variety for closer hunting applications.

I also use RWS super fields in a Co2 gun, they seem pretty decent and have a good finish too, also not so expensive.

HI Mate

I used to use H&N FTT in .177 & .22. Now I use AA Fields or JSB exact (which I am told are the same pellet.)I have heard people talk of bent or deformed ones but I can honestly say I have not come accross any. Also 4.52 Daystate is a good pellet. I have never got on with Accupel at all in any of my air rifles. Best to try a few and see what works best in your gun.

AA Fields and JSB Exacts are not the same pellets although the difference is marginal. JSBs are slightly lighter in the tail and are the ones preferred by target shooters.

Softer pellets are far better for hunting than hard pellets made out of zinc or tin alloys. They deform better on impact and thus transfer all their energy into the quarry whereas hard pellets can zip straight through and cause little trauma. This in my opinion is worth the extra care you need to handle them.

Softer pellets like JSB Exact are almost exclusivly used by successful target shooters too which is another reason to use them. You'll find JSB make most of the successful pellets that are branded Air Arms, Daystate and others.

  • 2 weeks later...

I use air arms fields mate, straight clean kill at 35 yards and head shot. I personally think they are well worth it. I also have a Tin of jsb 5.52 you can try them both when I see you but I prefer the Aa tho. Going to try the Aa hunter soon aswell. My s410 hates accupells they go all over the place never a consistent reading. I also have some hollow point which arnt to bad Upto about 25 yards, after they tend to fly off.
