shotgun Cart's

Recommended Posts

Ive recently picked up some 2 3/4, 7 1/2, 28grams, i know they are more of a target load, yet i would have thought they would deal with pigeons easily, i know im not shooting at rediculous ranges or taking shots beyond the scope of my skill, but its as if the lead isnt touching them? Im just going to use them on clays this weekend and get what i normally use but i just dont understand.. What does everyone else use on their rough shooting/ game ?

My own personal opinion (which could be different from that of others) is that a 30g or 32g of size 6 shot is about the best general all round load to use for general rough shooting but I will often step it up to 32g of 5 shot if I am specifically after crows. I have a preference for "Black Gold" cartridges - They might cost a little more but I believe that they will often out perform many of the "cheaper" cartridges!

I personally would prefer not to use a load of 7.5 size shot for anything but clay shooting - But that's just my opinion for what it is worth!

I've always used atleast 30g 6.s but last year I took my mate out and noticed how many he had shot on open choke using 8.s and since then I use 7.5s quiet a lot.

I recently was talking to a customer about this and he told me on the big partridge shoots they use 8's else they fly through the pattern.

The way I look at it is if I shot you with 6's or 7's would it make a difference and were only shooting birds plus if your Decoying the birds are close anyway
