Giving up smoking today!

I have smoked most of my life and have given up on many occasions for anything from two weeks to two years and always returned to the weed.

At the moment I am 21 weeks without a fag and yes I could still melt one down and inject it. What’s different this time?????????

1 I have admitted to myself I will always want one so get over it and stop being such a cock.

2 At over six quid a packet it won’t be long before I have to turn to my wife and child and explain that we can’t afford __________ (insert holiday, car, etc etc) because dad is a selfish ***** and chooses to burn tubes of leaves instead. And believe me that aint goin to happen

3 I won’t whimper behind overpriced aids promising to make the experience easy when all they do is prolong ones addiction to nicotine and postpone the inevitable.

Hard but the truth and only the truth works. Wake up and smell the coffee people.

I stopped mid march, and its the best thing i could have done. A few slip ups have happened, (they will but dont panic) and i think ive smoked 3 or 4 cigs over the months when ****** or fed up. You will be able to deal with the cravings better after every passing week. I loved smoking. Even now, i still think about it, and would love one sometimes, but it just aint worth it. If you need real reason to quit, go to the local hospital and have a walk around the lung unit. That might help you stay off em.

I wish you all the best with your attempt to give up.

I last had a smoke on 11/03/2011 - smoke free since, a week on patches then toughed it out

It was not my first attempt

It is possible

You will feel better

Its not as hard as you think

I have said I am packing in tomorrow however I have been saying that for forty odd years.

I keep saying to myself its a stupid, filthy expensive habit etc. etc.. :(

It,s good to see so many sympathetic PW members giving encouragement to you.

I have just promised myself that 10 AM on 21/06/2011 will be the last time I have a cigarette.

Wife is a fervent none smoker and will be as pleased as me when I am a none smoker.

Hopefully I will save fortune to spend as I wish. :yahoo:

Sincerely I wish you the best of luck

Going well so far, 3 days cold turkey. I have been to see the quit smoking nurse (to my surprise she was actually quite fit) and she has put me on champix tablets, which stops the receptor in your brain wanting a fag/nicotene hit. over the 1st week you are meant to still smoke, and then on the 8th day stop smoking. But as ive already done 2 days I thought, well, might aswell go the whole way woth no fags. I already have more money in my wallet, I take £40 from the cash machine every week, and still have it in my wallet!!! :drinks: So all is going well. I fell better, with more energy, the 1st day was the hardest, and I had a beer last night, I did want one, but I had the willpower!

Well done, champ ! Stick with it, it will get worse for the next few days as the nicotine leaves you, then it will start getting better every day. Buy some cartridges with the cash - every bang is another fag !

Yep I am in the same frame of mind get of the fags. I always thought I wasn't doin 20 a day, because I bought a pack one day had a sleep then finished that pack, but is tsill 20 in 24 hours :hmm:

So I have tried patches, - ended up in A&E

I have tried e cigarettes - A fag was easier to light

Tried that new nicorette mist spray - nearly died again

Trying to get in a see my doc/nurse for champix/zyban, I can't I have another disability, it's quite common you may know it as work, and all health places are closed when I overcome this disability.

So just waiting to get an appointment.... mission is to be fag free for the new year :good:
