jimbo1
hi to everyone on the forum from a total novice in sunny naaaarrrfuuukk !!(thats norfolk for those that struggle with the dialect !!) im an absolute novice to all shooting and in the process of applying for my first sgc and im hoping in vain i can drag my oldest son away from his xbox and join me too !! so,any advice you can give a newbie on all matters shooting would be greatly received.im also an avid pike angler and have been for over 10 years now, but would like to back that up with another country sport....especially if we have another winter like the last 2...with everything frozen solid and no fish biting...so shooting seemed the way forward when im not able to fish...just looking to shoot a few sporting clays and the odd bit of rough shooting to begin with...nothing to complex really, and i also recently joined the BASC as well....the liability insurance was worth the fee alone... also in the process of TRYING to train my 1 year old german pointer that was bought for me last year as a birthday present by the mrs...trouble is he was bought as a pet at the time...so trying to drill out 11 months worth of bad habits is proving a little difficult...but he`s getting there slowly... again any tips and advice eagerly accepted !! dont own a gun as yet...but was looking at a beretta silver pigeon... the advice of a few people ive asked already seem to think it would be a good gun to start with...a bit of an all rounder so to speak.im looking into having a few lessons to start with just to get the basics....although i have shot sporting clays once before...(27 out of 30 hit) it was a good while ago and ive never shot anything `live`...so a refresh is needed.been looking back at some previous posts on the forum...and it seems an absolute mine of info....trouble is trying to find the time to read it all !! apologies for the length of the post...but theres nothing like a proper introduction...and i look forward to talking with you all on the forum regards james

ste12b
Silver pigeon is great. Don't be impatient waiting for your sgc when you apply, as it may take ages. Good luck

Brown Sauce
Welcome to the Watch. I'd recommend a try before you buy session with your local gun shop, before parting with £1200 of your hard earned. Better to buy a gun that fits well, than spending money on making a gun fit. Im normally the latter foolishly im sure, i have always gone on recommendations to be honest then gone to see the gunsmith never caused me any problems as i would go to get the fit checked anyway so cant see any difference but if i had the chance to buy before i brought it im sure i would........... Very hard to fit a gun until you can shoot one... That said you seem to be OK at that! Welcome! Any Beretta post 682 is a damn good gun, with all spares available, not that you are likely to need them.

DIRTYHARRY
WELCOME! (TRICK FOR THE PROCESS OF APPLYING) I spoke to my FEO whilst in the process of applying, and he said that, because i was a new applicant, my application had basically been shoved aside, to make way for the renewal applications due to them being far more important, (ANNOYING I KNOW ) to which i replied... 'oh?' I then said well what do i do then? he said wait.... i waited another 2 weeks, after already installing the cabinet, everything was ready, but no appointment made with the FEO. It basically ended in me calling the firearms department every 3 days or so, asking for the FEO. I got many answers 'he's busy, he'll call you back' ( NEVER DID) or 'hes out on visits' so, i basically rang them back up and said, can i PLEASE talk to the FEO, its very important. i finally got hold of him! I had to make an appointment there and then on the phone myself. He turned up a few days later, signed the cabi off, and issued the cert. so from sending off the application on the 31st of June, i was issued my certificate on the 15th of August. RESULT!
