Its funny isnt it, last week there were hundreds of greylags about and at present they just dont seem to be about,i think they are feasting in wales, or just hiding

Wont be long and the Wigeon should start to show in good numbers so we might have some good shooting then

I have seen a lot of duck, was several big bunches on Tuesday evening, I managed to be in the right place too but they all come on the marsh at about 74 yards up. So far just 2 shots and no duck from 8 flights. This morning was a waste of time, nice tide at 6am but the full moon messed it up I think. But I will try again tonight.

I hope you are all having better luck than me.

I was down sutton bridge last night on the fenland. I was walking towards the tide when i spotted three mallard flying straight towards me. I squatted down and took all three - the first two with my own homeloads. The biggest drake had a basc ring on it. I shall find out where he came from.

Not a bad start, really. Two trips to the marsh and four mallard. It won't last!

Ie is it just basc and do they do it all over the uk? :good:

I would guess the BTO do maybe RSPB i believe Anser2 would certainly no as i believe he works in this field hopefully he may see this thread and give us the answer :good:

The duck Motty shot with a BASC ring on it is likely to have been a released bird from one of the local wildfowling clubs. All wild bird ringing is undertaken by BTO ringers of which there are several thousand around the country. Between them they ring hundreds of thousands of birds every year from robins to greylag geese. I used to hold a ringing licence , but other commitments forced me to give it up.

Anyone finding a ringed bird should return details of the ring number , how it was found ( ie shot ) , date and location of where it was found to the address on the ring. Do not send the ring in. They do not fare well in the post and sometimes the metal tears through the letter and the ring number is lost.

It could have been released by my club. They rear and release about 150 mallard per year onto a pit near the sea wall . This was definitely not one of this years birds, though.
