We are off to Florida and as normal we rent a 7 seater when we are out there. I normally find a special deal and get one for around the £300 mark for 2 weeks. At the moment best i can do is nearly £400.00. has anyone got any ideas for cheap car hire.

I do not want cheap because of crapppy insurance i always go for Gold option.

Would that help? :look:

Also http://www.uscarhire.co.uk/

Gives a quote of 450ish for a 7 seater mini van gold cover for 2 weeks.

Thanks for that, i can get about £400.00 which is about 25% more than i have paid in the past. I have often got a code from here or there for a discount but they don't seem to be about at the moment.

rimfire, mate ,you might just have left it a bit late for the good car deals, but try Dollar.com

the secret with them is you book as early as possible and sign up to thier newsletter/offers.When you get an email with an offer,go back into the site and search another rental, and I have found booking "lock low and go"to be the best booking car.I booked mine in Dec last year not long after I got back, and have since cancelled and re-booked about 6 times.I usually get it down to around $500-$550 for a month...DON'T TAKE THIER INSURANCE.I'll tell you next :good:

When you arrive to pick up your car,you get whatever they want to give you  if you want to upgrade, they will usually do a great deal for a few dollars a day. When my wife and I go we often end up with a huge suv for just 2 of us.This year we are only hiring a car for 2 weeks as we are buying an suv this yearand staying a bit longer.

For the insurance, look hereMy linky thing

All the rental places will rip you off for a small fortune, sometimes as much as $30 a day  I take an anual policy with this company that costs just over £100 for any single rental upto 30 days. When you are offered insurance at the rental office, tell them you have all you need (take your printed docs with you)and tick the decline boxes

job done

Thank you for that, we normally head over once or twice a year. We are in the Keys in November which we are sorted rental wise. The car i am after is for next March when we are doing a couple of weeks in the Orlando area with a couple who have never done the Disney thing. The insurance thing seems a good idea, i will have look into it.

I was ripped off by Alamo at Orlando airport.

For some reason my holiday firm (Cosmos) had forgotten to book my hirecar which was included in the holiday. In the paperwork I received it told me to go alamo with my name and flight number and they'd have my reservation.

when I got to the desk, the first guy I spoke to claimed to have no knowledge of the booking. Another guy came over and said "oh yeh we had an email about that one, just take a swipe of the customer credit card for security and show him to his car"

Great I thought. I didn't question anything, thought they were being honest. Got my car, got on with the holiday, dropped the car off, signed that there was no damage and off me and my mate went back to the UK. 3 weeks later, my credit card bill drops through the post showing that I had been charged £640 for car hire - they day after we arrived back in the UK. I spoke to cosmos, they confirmed that they hadn't booked the car at all and had sent no emails to Alamo which meant the second guy I spoke to lied about it, and then did a "customer not present" transaction after I left the country! ****!

Got my money back, but made me very wary for the future!
