Farmer-of-the-Futre
Hey all, first i just want to say there is nothing set in stone here about this particular post and i seem to get the 'i want' bug from time to time but im not sure if this is it I aquired a Daystate Air Ranger second hand for £600 from my local RFD and have had about 6-700 shots through it but something just doesnt seem right about it. Its not the gun im sure, i think its me and almost (without sounding to strange) The user and gun 'relationship' isnt quite right I feel i would be much better off with something like an s410 or prehaps a R-10 mk2. like i said nothing is set in stone but it is a change i am thinking about making and am just wondering if you all think i would be mad if i swapped my ranger for something along the lines of an 410? Even my cousins Bsa Ultra apeals to me more than the Daystate but i know it is almost definatley a better gun Oh the Ranger is .177 and i was thinking if i were to change it may be to .22 but i wont start that debate on yet another thread eh?! Thanks guys, Matt
M.I.A
The main thing will be finding a gun that you can shoot well with, regardless of its value. You could have the most expensive gun out there but what good is it to you if you dont get on with it

That said the Daystates are hardly known for being inaccurate! But, if you prefer the feel of the 410, that's the one to shoot with.

But before you change/sell/swop or whatever, may sure you have a go with another AA410 first - preferably alongside your Ranger. It may be a case of the grass being greener........!!! Farmer-of-the-Futre
I am not making any sudden desicions and i will be keeping the ranger for a while. I think the next move i may make would be to FAC. Proberbly a s410 or rapid at around 30lbs. but i do love the 410s, There is a range litterally across two fields from me ( its the one on gunmart.tv videos!) so i will hopefully be getting the ranger up there to see what it can do and if anyone else is there i may ask for a quick shoot on thier guns to get a feel for a different rifle

That said over time and familurisation you will adapt to the gun. I shouldn't think of swapping again till you have put about 2000 pellets down range
Farmer-of-the-Futre
Hey Kent, yeah i am thiking the same thing, I dont think it will be worth the hassle of selling a gun and looking for another to buy unless i will be getting alot more from it, I do prefer the s410 and when i shot one, i did shoot better with it but i am yet to have much practice with the ranger and would like to get it zeroed properly, i am still looking for the best pellet
jacksdad
Since returning to shooting I've had a few rifles, springers and PCP's, but I keep going back to my old AA S300, .22, with AA carbon fibre silencer and rowan 6 shot mag: I just love it Bit tatty but its a hunting gun, just fitted a brand new MTC Mamba and now I'm used to it I won't be selling this one. I also keep looking at getting a new gun, but I would still use my old faithfull as I wouldn't want to get the new one dirty or scratched etc! bullet boy
Firstly you have to be happy with your outfit and if your not then IMO it's time for a change! The S410 is a superb rifle and I love mine! Did you think of trying out another rifle that has a Buddy Bottle like your Air Ranger,in a Theoben Rapid?
steve_b_wales
I use an FAC S410, my first of this type of air rifle, and it's superb!

Did you think of trying out another rifle that has a Buddy Bottle like your Air Ranger,in a Theoben Rapid? Our opinions are similar, the ranger feels much to chunky, especially when walking it across fields and around farms. I find the buddy bottle is something else that adds to its bulkiness, i realise it means more shots but i will never need 300 shots or so in a day anyway. I think it would be alot of hassle to change and am considering getting a FAC s410 or similar, But like i said at the start, its just thoughts and ideas now, nothing is going to happed to quickly, i will try and get used to the air ranger but it simply doesnt feel right

Yes, in fact i saw an FAC rapid mk1 when i went to the gun shop today, love the look of them, even the mk1s they seem alot more compact and practicle than the ranger i think anyway i have a diving tank now so plenty of shooting to come and see if i can get used to the ranger
flukeyluke
The daystate is a cracking rifle but is really a sniping rifle in my eyes, find rabbit bury, dig down and wait,in my experience daystate rifles are VERY pellet fussy but once you find the right pellet(mine loved jsb exact) it will produce 1 hole groups out to 40yards. I think you would be MAD to swap for a AAs410,totaly insain infact, the bsa r10 and rapid though are a different story,if you really cant get used to the daystate then maybe go for one of these 2 as there both CRACKING rifles and not so much(if any) of a downgrade imo. TaxiDriver
I love my FAC BSA R10 Mk II it's cracking 50 shots from fully charged, only downside is the length of the barrel.

The barrel is a easy fix mate, just send it to xtx to get it shortened and threaded, makes a WORLD of difference, you can find him on the bsa owners site, guys a genius when it comes to the r10;)
