duke hamish
Is it worth going out lamping foxes in the rain? BecauseI have never shot a wet fox!
ajm1979
I shot my first ever fox last night on a stubble field in the rain if that helps
foxbuster
Foxes need to feed come rain or shine. I've had some really good nights lamping them in really bad weather. Get out there mate.
kent
Yes, but you have to watch your rifle don't get too wet or you might suffer over presure with dangerous and expensive consequences. Eximine your reasons why though, lamping evernight or even too regular on your ground tends to decrease not increase the bag. They aint dumb so i should only do it if and when you realy need to
Billy. I'm interested in how this is possible, unless its basically submerged.
Grandalf
Unless it is extreme then Reynard ignores the weather and gets on with life. We once found one laying on the top of a straw-stack, presumably asleep, in rain that you could hardly stand up in. When I squeaked him he got up, stretched and yawned, gently climbed down the bales - and vanished. He'd probably already dined and just wasn't interested. Always check ploughed fields for Reynard when it is wet - they love earth-worms. Fox scat contains small scale-like pieces - earth-worm side-walls. Not easy to shoot in heavy rain though. Scope fogging, reflected glare from the rain-drops, lamps shorting out - I've had them all.
Billy.
My understanding was that most supersonic bullets just shatter in the rain - if they hit a raindrop in flight. Anyone?!
al4x
I'm interested in how this is possible, unless its basically submerged. come on you must have seen Kents posts mostly pure theory Simple answer when it rains I sit in the truck with the rifle so it stays dry, fox wise if its absolutely tipping it down they seem scarce here but on a windy night with a bit of light rain it can be very productive. We have had some of our busiest rabbiting nights on messy evenings and if the rabbits are all out in the fields so too tend to be the foxes
Billy. Alycidon
Foxes will still be out and about in a bit of wet, it draws things like earthworms to the surface. Heavy rain is a waste of time until it has stopped then conditions should be good. I dont shoot a rifle in the wet these days unless I have to, its a lot of backside ache taking the action out of the stock to dry it etc etc, then it needs re zero.
