Mickthemiller
Hi PW watchers I am a novice shooter so based on feedback from PW forum I had a lesson with Carl Bloxham yesterday, and must say he takes coaching to a different level compared to a couple of others I have tried also his rates are very reasonable. What I enjoyed the most was the way he explained, and made me understand what went wrong with a miss, also he took a great deal of time to explain about the amount of lead required on different targets. And he gave me loads to think about when I practice in future. Needless to say it was a very enjoyable lesson, and I would recommend him to any one. Cosmicblue
Where is he based? He has use of a private club ground on the Long Marston raceway site near Stratford upon Avon. As other have said he is excellent as a coach and a thoroughly nice chap too - if you do decide to go then ideally share the day with a mate. The 1st time I went on my own - and shot my way through 650 carts, I went back in June and shared the day with someone and did a slightly more resonable 500 21grm compX. I will add that Carl coaches from the perspective of a competition shooter rather than just teaching you to shoot - i.e. what do you need to do/watch/listen for to break a specific kind of target rather than just pure technique. You can also go - as I did this year and name a particular kind of target (crossers a fair away out for me), because it is one-on-one he can the set a trap up and you can practice shooting the target from close up and then go back 10 yards and repeat, and then another 10 yards - at the end of the session I was breaking crossers at what I'd regard as extreme range with maybe 15-20ft lead...i.e the point where your brain says 'no way' and you pull the trigger to see the target break. Fantastically good value - its fair to say that the facilities are currently a bit 'rustic' - though I understand that are plans to build a proper shooting ground with a training ground just for Carl.
