activeviii
Yep i use one on my urika2. if pigeon shooting from a hide i will take it off but if roost shooting or walking the hedge rows with a mate and dogs then i put it over my shoulder. i have even used it on beaters days. as i pick up with the dogs for the beaters i need hands free so the sling works well. if a bird comes back over the top then i can take a shot at it. bothbarrels
Just wondering if anyone uses a sling on their shotgun? My semi-auto has mounting points for a sling and I was wondering today whilst decoying if it would be useful to put it on my shoulder when I go out to pick up birds or change the pattern etc... Cheers ! I know wildfowlers use slings, keeps thier gun out of the mud when trudging through the mud, BB.
Norrie
I certainly use a sling on my O/U , especially for driven Foxing...we can walk miles over moors and peat bogs to get to the shooting area, and carrying a gun just aint on. Bought a cheapy Cheata Style sling off a chap on here, and it's great...

Underdog
My auto is slung I would sling any gun I wished and others snubbing it can kiss my *** when they have brushed their teeth. A slunged gun is always the safest option what ever is going on whether it is an air gun, rifle or shotgun. If someone snubbs you for it they ain't worth hanging around with! Underdog. coyotemaster
Sling on a pump or semi auto----handiest thing since pockets on a shirt!!! When carrying gear keeps your gun barrel in a safe direction and out of the mud.
ayano3
Traditionally I always used to have a sling on my wildfowling gun, but due to the 'Sunday Afternoon Gang' who walk the sea wall the club decided we should carry the guns in a slip until we were on the marsh. I now use a sling on the auto again and take it from the slip the second I leave the sea wall, as you often get the odd duck flying around as we walk out to the mud. I would not carry it with a cartridge in the chamber but have 2 slipped in the magazine ready. Good for when walking to roosting woods too. Grandalf
I learnt a new trick last season. Get the Memsahib (or somebody elses) to knock up a light weight slip from light material similar to the stuff they make cheap fishing rod covers out of. Get her to sew the 'tube' that goes over the barrel of a semiauto then use stick-on velcro strips for the rest and under the butt of the gun. 1. You can then carry it by the normal gun sling. 2. If carried with two cartridges in the mag you can rip the cover off and be in action in about 3 seconds. 3. It is much lighter than a normal cover. 4. You can dry the dog with it or use it for other personal ablutions as described so graphically above!
