UKPoacher
It's not meant to fill a gap in the Range Rover range. It is an attempt to disguise the fact that it is merely a new Freelander with all the problems and faults associated with that model. Give a dog a bad name - change the name. bazzab
Sorry but Hamster is right it's designed to fill a gap in there range. An has done it well. The waiting list Is already well into next year. My wifes place sold there allocation in record time. They flew out. The demos have got people on waiting lists to take them. As he said it's not ment to be a off roading monster. Think they a marmite car. The reviews there are getting are pretty much all good really. gwb
I think it fits the market there aiming for perfectly. I personaly put it up there with the X6 in looks, bloody orrible!
Hamster
I think it fits the market there aiming for perfectly. I personaly put it up there with the X6 in looks, bloody orrible! The X6 may well not appeal to many but it`s not in direct competition with the Evoque. I myself can`t understand it`s customer base at all, when we looked around one the tiny boot space alone was enough to rule it out.
gwb
cant make my mind up which looks the most hideous, i think it might be the evoque...........no wait the x6
spanj
Everyone said 'What's the point in that'..... whilst BMW sold every X6 they could make. they are still pointless, sadly we are now living in a society that seems to look up (doh) to the likes of the beckhams et al and the fact that they sell every x6 they make makes me sad to the core !! ST3V3
the bit that confuses me a little I assume it uses the same 2.2 diesel engine as the x type if so where do they get the mpg figures from as my x type only averages 32 mpg ? Redditch
The best LOOKING Range Rover was the first one out I think, if they´de just make that, make it realiable and rust free, and improve the on road handling just a tad, I bet it would still sell well If I had the money there´s no way I´d chuck it out on a new Range Rover, it just isn´t a Land Rover any more, more like something BMW or Mercedes would chuck out, and that Evoque rear end looks like the rear end off some BMW or Mercedes estate car, or maybe a Mazda LOL Nah, I think for that money I´d have either the big Jeep (Another unreliable one, but looks the part), or maybe a Land Cruiser, or even go for the standard Range Rover (Albeit the reliabilty problems would probably put me off). Anyway, definately NOT this model, it´s a Chelsea Ponce mobility vehicle, school runs, and a night out on the town. jackinbox99
Not seen any of these on the road yet, but have seen loads of car transporters full of these on their way to the dealers this last few weeks. Ive got mixed feelings about them. To me they look like someone has sat on a Discovery and squashed it! I can see that they are trying to target maybe the same sort of people who`d have gone for a RAV4 or something, pitching it as a fun, kinda economical, small range rover for the younger trendy market? I can imagine I will see loads of these parked up outside schools before long with mums dropping their kids off etc..
Dr W
Don't like it, would much rather have a TDV8 Vogue (well one day perhaps).
petrol_head29
should have been called a freelander sport imo nice moter but not worthy of the rangerover name
AlistairB
Chatting to a LR dealer the other day, according to him (make of that what you will) they had 8000 uk orders before the launch, and by last week they had 9500+, make of that what you will! AB Completely true I`d say, the demand was instant as soon as they showed early sketches about five years ago. What a lot of people don`t appreciate is that high end stuff sells on looks, the target market loves those looks even if your average weekend lamper doesn`t. Catweazle
Not a bad looking car, but not a Rangerover. They should have called it something new and acknowledged that they've lost the off-road battle.
UKPoacher
I cannot understand how the Evoke can be voted the most exciting car of the year by members of the public who have nver seen one let alone driven one. I agree with Catweazle in the Land Rover have abandoned their traditional markets to chase the Chelsea set. The old farmer I help out has had Land Rovers all his life but will not even consider the new Discoveries or Range Rovers. When we went to the sheep sales the other day it was noticible how many Japanese 4X4s there were towing stock trailers. Once the Defender is modernised they will lose all the working farmers. They should have called it something new and acknowledged that they've lost the off-road battle. They did not go for the off-road battle with this one Catweazle, they`re capitalising on the name by selling a trendy/unique looking car to the brand conscious with heavy wallets. It is brilliant marketing. It`s funny how we all decry the British manufacturers when they lag behind and mismanage product placement , when they get it spot on we seem unable to say well done. I see your point, but remember that despite the "Chelsea Tractor" tag, the older Rangerovers were actually very capable off-road. This new model looks to be something different. The JD Powers survey puts Land Rover at the bottom of the pile for reliability over the last three years and the Frelander is the least reliable Land Rover. Dunkield
I always take 'unreliable car' stories with a pinch of salt, and use my own judgement. True story. Years ago a got a brand company new Golf GTi 1.9 Turbo, nice car and no mistake, so did many other people. I drove mine service to service, if anything needed doing I took a note of it and asked them to look at it. IMHO life's to short to do anything else. A colleague of mine had his in the main dealer <I kid you not> for over 60% of the time he owned it. Each time I asked what was up with it this time, he came back with things like "don't you get get that buzz from the boot catch at 80mph in 3rd" or something just as obscure. So if you asked me if it was good car I would say yes I loved it, fast, economical (not that that mattered) practical, reliable etc If you asked him it would be the worse car he ever owned. So who do you believe?
