celestialspore
Hello I think I am going to apply for my FAC very shortly. I have my SGC, and have had it for about 10 years now, and fancy a change. I would use the .22lr mostly for controlling rabbits on permissions I already have, but recently I have started target shooting at my uni gun club. Just now I'm using one of their old target Unschutz guns when I am at the club. If I do apply for my FAC, I would like to put down these two reasons, rabbits and targets, for having one. I'm curious if there is a gun out there with both diopter sights, and can take a scope? Or one which I could easily change over between the two? Thanks
stoggieman
B.S.A Century You can get a clip in magazine for these. Mine was a bull barrel version used it for pest and target and always shot mid 90,s and several possibles traded up to a Carl Walther kkm match standing kneeling and prone now that was a rifle. Cannon
a friend of mine has a Weihrauch HW-66 Match Rifle which came with dioptre sights and was also threaded. It's a superb rifle to shoot and a scope can be easily mounted using the rails on the rifle. Only downside is the price. Think they are around £850-£900. Worth it though if you need real pinpoint accuracy.

arjimlad
I would caution against getting the same rifle to do 2 different jobs. A target rifle will be too heavy to lug around after bunnies and is a single-shot beast. The lighter sporting rifle will not give best results on targets. Best to have 2. Horses for courses. In the same vein, I bought a hybrid bike a few years ago. I now wish I had bought a proper drop handlebar road bike and saved for a mountain bike. Hybrids are for grannies. Bradders
You didn't say what type of target shooting you were going to do. Either way, I would apply for 2 slots on my FAC if I were you, one for target and one for pest control. You don't need to buy both at once and it gives you the option of having two rifles if you want, adding an extra slot will cost money during the life of the certificate, applying for two at the begining will say you a "variation" fee..... Best of luck.....
ajb403
If you're serious about either the target shooting and/or the pest control then get two slots, don't try to make one rifle do both jobs. Your profile says Aberdeenshire, are you at Aberdeen Uni? If so, their target shooting team is pretty good (not quite as good as Southampton Uni though ) and you'll struggle to compete against those shooting proper target rifles with their heavier longer barrels, accessory rails, adjustable stocks, butt-hooks etc. Get two slots, buy a sporting rifle and carry on using the clubs Anschutz untill you can afford to buy your own target rifle. jonno
Have you tried target shooting in the Lightweight Sporting Rifle leagues? One rifle will do both jobs then. Jonno
