ernyha
Is it leagal to shoot attackers in the US? It is legal and accepted in most States to shoot anyone who enters your premises without permission let alone to commit a burglary .

"WARNING TO BURGLARS - YOU LOOT - WE SHOOT...!!!" Very effective in getting the message across!!!

MARK 1
looking at this thread take's me back a few year's, an old school mate of mine awoke one morning at 3am to noises what he thought were outside , but seeing his baby was only 7 month's old he got up to have a look. what happened in the next minutes you could only describe as your worst nightmare. after doing the usual check's he thought everything was ok & went to check on the baby only to find an intruder stood over the cot. needless to say he beat the living **** out of this scum, causing some severe injuries. apparantly he multiple broken bones, internal bleeding & a fractured skull. whan the police arrived they found the burglar at the bottom of the stairs, this was my mate's down fall. after a long and drawn out court case the burgler ended up with nearly 10 thousand pound in damages,& my friend was sentenced to 6 years in prison. he was released after 2 years of his kids most important time of life. needless to say if any one tried to violate either my privacy or property thers only one way they would be leaving and that's in a zipped up bag,& and i would do the time with great pleasure you can say again the judicial sytem is ******
red_stag88
"I would hit you, but i'll get nicked, so I'll wave this broom meanicingly at you" The law is fundamentally ******
brooktrout
Fortunately most of us dont get burgled, I was once the victim of an attempted burglary, late at night when my kids were very young. The sheer anger that I felt that night while the guy was attempting to break into my house was something that truly amazed me. My guns were securein the attic, and out of reach, but I now know damned well that if they had been easily available that night that I would probably have resorted to that option. I still keep them well out of reach, but a heavy club has ever since been kept handy. This is the reason for my support and understanding for Mr Martins predicament that night. Reading about a burglary is a far cry from actually experiencing one in your own home, I can promise you that.
brain dead
Thank God i 've never been burgled in the night!but i believe if they want to come into our houses they deserve what they get, in my opinion a baseball bat swung in their direction .But its awful how they can steel your kids stuff for their own kids, cheap B*&5T£rds.They won't be coming on our property again though, Dads put cctv up barbed wire on top of raised walls and on the gates+ hes linked it up to the electric fence, so if they get in they won't be getting out to fast
red_stag88
BD's house is a veritable Fort Knox, they stole some of your tack didint they? We got burgled, a chainsaw, hedge trimmer, two routers, two power drills and a strimmer. One of our neigbours aughter is being followed by a boy named bush boy, cus he hides in the bushes and watches her. I think i scared the **** out of him when he saw me walking along carring a couple of rather gory shotgunned rabbits I want him to see me and my dad with a half grollocked red stag, that would REALLY scare the **** out of him Our neibours are thinking about getting a restraining order put on him, no need for that, just a rather gory deer head on the fence post should do it..... highdowns hunter
I cant see much difference between hitting someone with a baseball bat and shooting them If you beat someone up with a bat you will almost certainly loose your guns as well
brain dead
yeah true, its a no win situation, so just do what you feel like, i suppose if you poked them with a small pointy stick its just the same although beating them with a bat saves ammo
brooktrout
So whats your solution Highdowns hunter?, welcome them in, offer them coffee while they decide what they want to take, and leave it to our wise judges whose personal security paid for by the state{thats us} ensures that they will never be victims of burglary like normal folk. I truly hope that you will never have to go through the trauma of a night-time break-in on your property, but I can promise you that If you do, you will understand exactly what I mean. rjimmer
I cant see much difference between hitting someone with a baseball bat and shooting them If you beat someone up with a bat you will almost certainly loose your guns as well Only if they find the body!!! An oil drum with a few holes in the bottom and sides. A large sack of coal and you won't have much left except the teeth. You have to smash them up with a couple of lump hammers. So I've been told!!! highdowns hunter
Brooktrout, I think you have misunderstood my post What I was trying to say was, If you hit a burglar with a base ball bat You will almost certainly loose the licence for your guns as the police would deem you to be a violent person, so you may as well shoot them. I have not had the pleasure of being burgled but my 81 year old mother has 3 times, so I know how it feels and if I were in a situation whereas i could catch someone breaking into my house or my parents house I would be quite happy to take their legs off. I have been in a situation where i saw someone breaking into my neighbours car at 2am one morning. I got my wife to call the police whilst i ran outside with my baseball bat ready to bang the thief, only to find that it was my neighbour locking his car up for the night   He will think again before doing it at that time of morning as i frightened the Sh-t out of him

17rem
As much as I dont agree with what happened to the chap that shot the burglar, as the gun that he shot the burglar with was an of the ticket one which the farmer should not of had in the first place, maybe this is why the courts were not in his favour. Just a thought Ian
Columbus Polumbus
The law in this area is tricky and the defendant would have to show "reasonable force" irrespective of the weapon or implement used. You may have a difficult time convincing a jury disabling someone with your legally held firearms was reasonable if they were locked up in your cabinet due to the time taken to obtain them. In other words, was your life or your families life in sufficient danger that you had time to remove the weapon from a secure facility, load it and fire??? If the low life scrots mitigated they were only stealing goods and you attacked them it could be considered excessive. This is a very emotional topic ofwhich I feel nothing but sympathy and understanding with for victims and total disregard for the perpetraitors of such gutless crimes. The system regrettably has failed society generally, I had a situation the other night where I heard noises from the shed, I went to investigate and when I got close to the door, momentary panic came over me because inside was all my tools, leathal weapons if you know how to use them. But it was my land and my things and I thought ****** it, they will get a good kicking if I get half a chance and sod the risk. This is because if a burgular attacked me on my property it is expected he or she should attempt an escape with whatever means at his disposal and if he doesn't kill you he will be charged with aggravated burgulary. If you kill him in self defence, the headlines read "HOMEOWNER GOES BERSERK KILLING BURGULAR IN BUNGLED RAID" you are already onto a loser!! We know the police will not respond as they consider this offence low key. An old gent over here called the police with two scumbags in his place and died of fright before the cops got there. What they haven't put on the news is how long it took them to respond!! So effectively......... your on your own and you must do as you see fit and make sure you can justify 110% your actions whilst they pick over it in a nice cushy courtroom in relative safety. If I was a judge (which is probably why I am not) I would look at it like this, was the scumbag breaking into a house.......... yes! Was the owner complying with the law and enjoying his free time........Yes so if the scumbag was not there would the owner have attacked him....... No so the cause and effect is the total responsibility of the scumbag...... no case to answer!!
