Pigeon Paul
As a few of you know I was an extrememly lucky young man and had a (very unexpected) invite to a days driven partridge shooting. Well yesterday was the big day and we started at 9am with coffee, biscuits and a brief from the shoot manager regarding rules for the day then straight to the 1st drive. 4 Partridges for 5 shots and a telling of from the head beater for not giving 1 bird enough sky ! Another drive then stop for more biscuits and of course elevense's! 2 more drives, lunch, and 2 more drives. We finished the day about 4.30 with tea and cake. Then it was time for the "Special" handshake and a big thank you to the keeper, who then handed me 2 braces of superb french partridges. What a day I had.... Fantastic weather, superb company, excellent shooting and a fine lunch! I am sure it is not "the done thing" but I know you lot will ask.... I finished the day with 32 partridges, 1 Pigeon & (Unortunately) 1 young hen pheasant. all for 64 cartridges. I am truly envious of anybody who is lucky enough to be in the position to be able do that a number of times per year!!
TJ91
Sounds like an enjoyable day. And don't worry...we all make mistakes, it can be abit nerve wrecking for the first few shots! Well done though!

garyb
What was the total bag?
al4x
its a cracking day and you have to be there to appreciate the biased views to driven shooting that people form without having partaken. If I had the wonga I would do an awful lot more of it, that was a cracking shot ratio as driven partridges are challenging. Shame about the weather its far too warm for game shooting roll on some frosts wind and cloudy days then it gets more like it
welshwarrior
You ve done well glad you enjoyed it just be careful it's addictive. Don't worry about the pheasant a friend still tells the story of his first day shoot a lovely left and right but the second bird was easier it stood out well being white. Pigeon Paul
Thanks Gents. Total bag was 150 partridges, 3 pigeons....... And 1 pheasant! I was pleasantly surprised during the day at the level of banter that goes on. It certainly was not all back slapping and congratulating each on such fine shots!! More like " you w@&"er, how did you miss that"!
Alycidon
32 from 150, thats a hell of a good day. You wont ever get many like that assuming you were shooting 8 or 9 guns. At 2 to 1 thats nice shooting as well, I see a lot of folk who would love to shoot that well, well done. All that now remains is to book a day for two guns somewhere as a return invite to your host. If you are unsure how to go about this pm me. A

Equally I'm invited on one other shoot and the inviter knows I'm not in a position to return the invite. It's not expected - depending on why and how the original invite came about.
