Neal "oddjob", after a lot of very hard work and even more time and effort had his first Clay Shoot today at Fennes.

The Clay shoot is for the pupils of the school where Neal is a teacher.

It is intended that the club meets once per month and with the drive and determination that Neal has I am sure this will happen.

We all know what school budgets are like so you will appreciate what a result this is :good: .

Neal you are a real Champion to these kids, a big well done is in order.:yes:

How many new shooters?

28

You are all too kind, I enjoy doing it and it's great to see the kids faces. I'm just in it for the money...

To increase the brown nosing and vomit inducement, I must say a huge thanks to Terry as well, not for his persistant good looks, but for agreeing to be a regular coach for the club despite living in another county. There's a real cost both money and time, so thank you mate, I couldn't do it without you.

What has been highlighted are three things that others might be able to help with, if you are feeling generous.

1) Weaponry: we've got a lot of small shots and having another 410 or preferable the holy grail, a 28g would be really useful. If you have something gathering dust that is safe and usable and you fancy donating it, I would be truly appreciative. I nor the school can afford to buy anything.

2) Coaches: I need some regular, qualified and, if possible, CRB checked coaches for the club due to the huge popularity. We are training on the first Saturday of each month for your info. Ability to work with kids is needed.

3) Donations: We are all skint, I know that. However I'd like to subside the shooting, where possible, for the little herberts who do not have the socio-economic backgrounds that do not feature or allow shooting. I strongly believe the sport with its discipline and mental strength has the ability to develop these students in to good citizens as well as prize winning shooters. If there is anything, from some cartridges, cash, or vallium for me,that people would like to donate that would be amazing, generous and greatfully received. I have/am contacting companies, but if you have any people you can lean on, that would be great. There are few other opportunities for companies to influence the shooting of 44 students (presently on the books) and their families.

Cheers for dropping by to read this.

Could you set something up whereas people could donate boxes of cartridges? So for example does the ground have a shop where people could ring up and pay for 2 or 3 boxes at a time? If they do then send me the number as I will certainly put in for a bit. I think it is really important to get children involved in the sport and you are right, the dicipline that the sport offers will help them in many other aspects of their lives

Wow, thank you. Well, the easiest way might be to PayPal money to me if there were people feeling so very very kind. That way I can keep it in the kitty and buy he cartridges with it. Naturally this does assume some level of trust for me as most have never met me. I'm not sure what I could do to put people at ease apart from the professional responsibility I hold with my position in school. Stealing money for kids would be at the expense of my job.

If people did want to donate anything, please do drop me a PM and I'm happy for you to give me a call regarding this. Thank you Tarn.

Goodness. I'm actually lost for words. Gents, thank you so very very much. I'm utterly touched that people would give up their hard earned money to help this little project out. Thank you does not seem a big enough word. Hitclays, can you please pass on my deepest thanks to the people shooting at your event. I am happy to drop you a line every now and then to keep them up to date with the club.

Tarn, thank you very much as well for reaching in to your pocket, it is really generous. What I shall do is put the money in to the school account as that way the process is transparent. It will be held for when we need it, either to pick up a new gun or to support less well off students get in to the sport.

Thanks guys.

What a fantastic response, totally unbelievable.

Pigeon Watch has exceeded it best by a country mile, and in doing so will help a group of kids better themselves.

Just a little story from yesterday.

I was in the cage with a lad and when he took his first shot he broke the clay, I said "come on smile" he had a little grin on his face, but said I don't like to smile, after hitting about 6/7 of his 10 targets he said as he left the cage "with a big smile on his face" "I can't stop now". :good:

Those few minutes raised this lads self esteem a long way.
