cant hit rabbits 123
Evening all, Friends side by side has jammed shut, two empties in the chambers so no legal issues that I know of. The back trigger seems to be stuck at the back of its travel, the safety cannot be engaged and the opening lever only opens half way. Can anything be done about this or will it need to be sent off to the gun smiths. He asked me, but I'm afriad I've no clue in this case. Falling back on the PW bank of knowledge! Thanks chaps. Gordon R
Take the stock off - should have a better idea of why it is stuck.

Could be that the firing pin has punctured the primers on the shells and is now stuck, preventing the action opening. I had this with an O/U and had to force it open in the end - I just really forced the action until the firing pin opened up the hole in the primers and released it thereby releasing the action. It was a cheap gun though so I wasn't bothered if I broke it. Good luck, if its worth anything I would suggest gun smith
wymberley
Take the stock off - should have a better idea of why it is stuck. Provided the limited movement of the top lever clears the screw head below it.
Paul T
If a firing pin had gone beyond it's normal limit of travel (broken pin or spring) it would just stick and not affect the trigger or opening lever. The opening lever should move to it's full extent but the gun would be very difficult (or impossible) to break open though. Either way, I'd avoid forcing it unless absolutely necessary. As suggested, if you can get to the screw under the lever, drop the stock off and you should be able to see what the problem is. I'd hazard a guess at being trigger related or possibly the safety catch spring that has broken and dropped into the trigger mech. If you can't open it then I'd concede it's a gunsmith job. cant hit rabbits 123
Thanks for all the input chaps, I had a look at removing the stock but it seems the screws haven't been out in all its 50 years and will not budge. Its off to the local gunsmiths tommorrow. I looked at the UK gun repairs website with a view to sending it to them, and although they look very proffessional and I may still have work for them yet, they are simply too far away for work that is rather minor compared to other gun problems. apache
If it's 100% safe and not got a live cartridge in there it might be worth a good firm tab of the base of the stock on a firm surface with the barrels pointed upwards. TDS
Get a long piece of wooden dowel longer than the barrels . Insert into the muzzles and tap the spent cartridge back and this will release a stuck firing pin...obviously only if the cartridges have been fired
