wingnut
While cleaning and sorting some Pheasants this afternoon from yesterdays beating over in Lincoln, i discovered what i thought was a gross abnormality in this particular bird so i took a photograph of it just out of curiosity. At 1st i couldn't quite make out what it was, it was not until i got a knife under it and prised it away i found out just what it was. It turned out to be the fibre wad from a 12g cartridge, there were no pellet strikes at all in the breast just this great lump of a thing. How close would the bird have been in order to get that type of impact from a wad? After further inspection of the meat i decided that there was too much damage and ended up giving it to my Ferrets. welsh1
Maybe the shooter shot at another pheasant, and this one flew at nearly the same time but into the gap between the shot and the wad,i would think if it was close enough for a wad to do that damage, then the shot would have normally obliterated it. Beretta28g
For the wad to penetrate on its own id say 15 yards max.

WelshLamb
I shot a rabbit at about 15 yards with my 20 bore. Rabbit was uneatable, and the fibre wad was stuck in it's chest cavity! Edited October 24, 2011 by WelshLamb
