Would you all please keep your eyes open. Last Sunday (23rd October) we lost our Bavarian Mountain Hound Bitch 'Mintaka' from near Stanley Downton Sewage works, nr. Stonehouse, Glos. She was last seen running around my Land Rover, we were only 5mins away but when we returned there was no sign of her with no sightings since. Please have a look at this link:

MINTAKA- THE SEARCH GOES ON

I would just like to thank everybody for their condolences regarding Mintaka. On Friday we were informed by the group Doglost who beforehand had been informed by Networkrail that a dog fitting the description of Mintaka including a tattoo on the inside of one of rear legs had been identified. They also asked if we wanted the body returned to us, to which we said yes. Through Doglost; Networkrail PROMISED to have the dog back with us on Saturday by meeting the lady from Doglost, who would then in turn pass on the hound to us. Around midday on Saturday the lady from Doglost called to inform us that Networkrail had actually now disposed of the dog and they are sorry but it was a mistake to have told us that the dog was identified by the tattoo as this was not the case, no record of a tattoo or microchip being looked for. On Sunday it was confirmed that the hound was definitely not Mintaka, so the search for Mintaka goes on and thank you Networkail for your incompetence.

My god! That's a good bit of news, you will be frantic in looking then...

How come your dog has a tat?

They tattoo as another method of identifying very much like a micro chip but obviously a lot harder to remove etc . Thinking about getting my dog done soon.:good:

Hope you find your dog soon and really can't belive network rail could be that incompetent !!!

Erm...why can't you believe it? They can't even run a decent rail service which is supposed to be their main business. :hmm:

Hope deertracker can find his dog, it is gutting to lose one. I had a similar situation with my first Springer which disappeared while out on a walk. I did find mine, smashed to bits in a plastic bin bag by the side of the dual carriageway having been run over. Hope he has a better outcome but either way it is far better to know IMHO.

Exactly that can't belive it !! Can't belive they could stoop to all new lows .....used to work for them and they were bad enough then but to tell someone they have found their dog with out actually checking shows thier incompetence ......think you have read my comment wrong :good:

Excuse me for sticking up for Network, but if anyone has actually seen anything thats been hit by a train you would understand why it may have been mistaken for the owners dog (of which i hope there is a happy ending ASAP) Looking for any distinguishing marks of any kind and actually finding them would be an achievment in its self worth a medal.Believe me, its difficult to tell what sex a human was once hit by a train let alone see a tattoo on a dogs leg, I personaly would put blame on the "Doglost" business for not checking first, then informing the poor owner they have found there dog, definatly not assuming first

Sorry to hear about you losing your dog. Thank god the one that was hit wasn't her - although of course that now means someone else has lost their pet and will never see it again. :/

I'm very local to where you lost her and have a good few friends with dogs. I'll pass the word around for them to keep an eye open for you.

Edit...

There are a lot of poachers who snare Rabbits around the area of the bluebell wood. Have you talked to the farmer on the up hill side of the railway bridge? Most of that land is his and it may be worth a walk around all the hedgerows to make sure she hasn't got a paw stuck somewhere out of sight.
