telf
Got the Green filter in a kit from Uttings. Just as good as the red but best of all it don't spook the bunnies. The red filter gives you good eye reflection out past 120yds. I use the lamp mounted on top of the scope. Works a treat and is light. Must get round to trying the blue filter, see how effective that is. cheers, looks like the max pro with filter kit and i was thinking of the 14amp lithium battery as all lamping will be done on foot, keep me posted on how you get on with the other filters

The Essex Hunter
One lamp only then the 170 does a good job, red lens for rabbit, green or amber will extend the reach a bit for charlie. May well be over budget but they are worth the extra. I am just taking to bits a lamp I bought maybe 20 years ago that has stopped working, the bulb is crimped in !!, at least the 170 bulb change is pretty easy, A I have a light force 170 (scope mounted) set it up the other night and was horrified with the result in the scope. The lamp is great and gives a nice beam; however the height from the clamp to the centre of the lamp causes the scope to pick up the light at source. We did some tests with a mate holding the light and lifting it until the scope became clear and a target out at 200 yards was nice and sharp. The second test was using the lamp in a hand held position with it around 3 feet off to one side; it too was clear with no light pollution in the scope. So today I machined and fitted an extension to the lamp and what a difference, I took it around to a mate to check it over and he commented on how he had struggled when he fitted the same lamp to one of is rifles, but on his 17hmr with a different scope it worked well. Granted his working distance with the 17 is a 100yds! I would suggest you try and borrow a lamp and find a nice clear night and do an honest test out at a distance in your comfort zone to save being disappointed. Dekers
Fitting a sunshade should fix this Yes, it's a common problem, sometimes 2 sunsades will be required, my .22Tikka was still a problem with 1 x 3" sunshade, fitted a second (6" total) and its fine! artschool
where is the best place to get a 170 plus dimmer and a decent battery as well? bumping for answers
Uncle Albert
cheers, looks like the max pro with filter kit and i was thinking of the 14amp lithium battery as all lamping will be done on foot, keep me posted on how you get on with the other filters I use the standard sealed 12V lead acid batt. It fits easily in my jacket pocket,a Deerhunter Montanna, and doesn't seem too heavy. I shoot on foot, on a golf course, and have used the light on Air rifles and my .22lr. Works a treat. If there is one bugbear it is the fact that the batt lead that I have is just a standard wire. I believe you can get a sprung coiled cable for it. Just remember to unplug it if you put your rifle down to retrieve your kill. The joint will come apart of its own accord but don't depend on it doing so. Salop Matt
Me and my shooting / lamping buddy both use light force 140 to san upto 200 yards and hunt out to 120yards right down. How ever am going to sell my lightforce 140 with deban dimmer, lead acid battry and carrying pouch to replace it with a culson clu-brighter : http://clulite.cluson.co.uk/led-torches/357-clubriter-rechargeable-led-hand-torch.html with a red filter: http://clulite.cluson.co.uk/filters/375-a66-filter-disc.html No cables to knot up rugged and rubberised and light weight ! Cant see why this wouldnt also cover you out to 200yards and its cheaper than a light force and great customer service .
