scimitar
Just to let you know that the max 400 is also available as a variable power version, bit more cash but more versatile. Also available just as a lamp so if you already have plenty of batteries it saves paying for yet another one.

steve_b_wales
An excellent make of lamp is Cluson. I have a Blaserlite 2 million cp one, which is light in weight, It's not expensive to convert it to a scope mounted lamp, and filters are a reasonable price too. Steve. foxbuster
Another vote for the Cluson. Light weight, quite small and a good beam. Find it brilliant to use on my rimmies.
Salop Matt
Culson are great, if your thinking of going hand held then this is worth a look, am soon to replace my light force with one ! http://clulite.cluson.co.uk/led-torches/357-clubriter-rechargeable-led-hand-torch.html In addition I have also just bought a scope mounted lamp ! There are some good scope mounted tources out now and mine is setting me back £60 for the tourch, car charger, spar battery, mount and tail cap with pig tail cable and preesure switch. Iv scourced my own red filter for £3 and it gives 100yrd - 150yard beem and has a lower power setting to. This coveres me for everything from .177 air rifle upto as far as i want with the HMR. Big Gnat
I have three Cluson , and two Deben all are different models the small Cluson is only good for close work, ratting in barns etc. I have customised my Cluson by fitting a Lightforce G clamp to it. This allows it to be clamped quickly on and off the Scopes of all my guns or even onto a fence, car boot etc when paunching Rabbits before heading home. The cost of the Clulite lamp mounts are about £15.00 and are a bit annoying if you have more than one gun, you end up needing a few mounts. The Deben lamp has a much better mount it just clips onto the Scope and easily pops off when not needed. Both makes are of a similar strength and bulbs are easily obtainable from a good DIY store! DO NOT PAY for bulbs direct from either company as you will be charged a fortune for a STANDARD BULB! The Cluson can be directed more efficiently onto your aim point so I think this gives it the edge! but I do use the Deben Tracer Max as well, its a nice clear piercing beam and good when used with a dimmer switch! Filters available for both and can be useful.
