I intend to so the same to a very old S/B folding .410. The stock is damaged, but I 'repaired' it. The barrel is 27" long and I intend to cut it down to just over 24".

The shotgun will be used for humane dispatch of foxes, should the need arrise after they have been shot with my rifle/s. I've only ever had 2 that were not killed instantly, and shooting them again at close range with a CF rifle was not ideal, and could be dangerous.

Wont just cleaning it every now and then prevent it from rusting?

I realise this thread is over 6 months old,but one thing caught my eye.If anyone else does this, there is no need to re-proof at all. If,in the event you find someone wants to buy it off you,you simply write it on their ticket as 'given'.As long as no money changes hands :innocent: you're in the clear.
