dave1992
I have seen a few of these on guntrader and was wondering if anyone uses them for hunting or are they purely for ranges? I am confused as i was looking to move to my firearms licence soon and thought these rifles would be a practical and hard-wearing substitute
Breastman
The general consensus is they are range plinkers/mini-rifle comp guns only. Although a member of the public who is firearms ignorant and that way inclined is as likely to report you if they saw you with a wooden bolt-gun as they would with a black semi-auto, if its police officer that sees you, you might attract an 'excessive' reaction My own personal thoughts on it are that as long as the gun is acurate enough (main concern) and you're shooting at night or somewhere where you wouldn't be spotted, crack on with whatever you've got Modifying your preferences because of the ignorance of others is bad form Mark
CZ550Kevlar
Buy what you want to buy, to be really honest to the general public a gun is gun, doesn`t matter if it`s a military clone or a standard rifle, if they want to report you because of being worried etc they will. As for accuracy i have yet to find a military clone rifle that shoots well, 9 times out of 10 they have poor triggers and accuracy is like spray and pray. vole
If I get a semi auto for range and field work I think I will get a Ruger 10/22 but with the bigger magazine for the fun stuff .

Strange, I've shot a Smith & Wesson M&P15-22, Sig 522 and my own GSG5-SD, all shot 1.5cm or better groups at 25m, my GSG with decent ammo will do 1cm if I do my part. FalconFN
Why would they not be accurate? Just because they are military style dosen't mean they are Rambo's toys and not real rifles. A friend is getting a AR15 in .223 for foxes, it's not what they look like that matters.
Imperfection
The little Chiappa M4 in 22lr is a popular, reliable rifle and accurate too.

ordnance
Don't have to worry here, you have to be in a club to get one. Suppose the police dont want people wondering round fields with a military looking rifles. On the plus side you can get a handgun if you are in a club. And a cheap and cheerful 452 will put them in the same hole at 25m! Half the price or less than these Rambo wannabe clones too! ATB!
1in9
I've shot rabbits with the .22LR Colt M4 from Umarex, in a quiet valley without footpaths. Did the job OK. That said, in the 'rabbit headshots at 50m' stakes 6lb military triggers aren't the best! I use a Steyr Aug Z for foxing, it's a sub MOA gun and at less than 105cm long with a moderator is great for 4x4 use Edited January 16, 2012 by 1in9

Not so, if you've got the calibre on your ticket for hunting/pest control you can use any old gun you like. Though shooting outside the public perception of sporting rifle and farming clobber is rolling the 'what's that police helicopter doing' dice! Though shooting outside the public perception of sporting rifle and farming clobber is rolling the 'what's that police helicopter doing' dice! If you are looking .22 here you first go to a dealer pick a rifle get the serial number send your forms ect to psni. They then do the checks and approve your application. They would turn you down for a military type.22 rifle. But the law has changed lately, Where as before if you wanted to take one rifle of and put one on it all had to be sent to the psni for approval. Now its the same as a shotgun if it is the same caliber it can be done at the dealers. So whether you can change it at the dealers for a military type rifle i dont know. I do know a mate who went to a dealers wanting to buy a Walther g22 an was told he couldn't sell him one with a letter of support form a club, if you get one for club use then you will only be able to shoot it at the club.
