Gun cleaning and maintainance lesson

At the end of last summer Colinlad gave us a superb demonstration on how to correctly butcher our game.

Everybody went away feeling they had learned something useful, A True MasterClass

Now I do clean my guns, but how well? In my opinion not very well at all, maintainance not at all.

Would I like to learn how to clean my guns more efficiently, and more importantly, well "YES" and day to day maintainance "YES PLEASE"

Are there any others out there that would like to learn as well?

Could we find someone local to show us?

Could we use the same format as before, find a pub have the demo (could we bring our own guns) and have a meal and a pint afterwards.

Would we need a second demo for Semi Auto's?

Or is it just me being a complete and useless

I appreciate that this would have to be organised on a local basis, but what are your thoughts on this suggestion?

I would be interested to hear.

Look at this site, under Gun Smithing, how many of our guns are like this inside?

Thanks to Nicky T for the link and heads up

I may be wrong, but I don't think there's that much to learn!

It's all rather simple to clean bores, wipe metalwork with a lightly oiled cloth and apply a little wood stuff to stocks.

Just my view

I know people that take out the ejectors and strip the gun down to more pieces than a meccano set, but maybe that is a little too far.

You supply the WD40 and bog roll and I'll do the demo :good:

Should take about 5 mins, so more time in the bar.

Would you like a snap cap demo too? :hmm:

Sounds like a good deal to me :good::lol:

but you can learn everything you need to using google and you tube.

I am better at learning at a practical level rather than from a TV/computer screen

I have got 7 dirty shotguns in the cabinet. I would be happy for the mug instructor to practice on them :good::lol:

Too far from me but perhaps a localish smith could add some info/bring some examples like how to check for worn pins, springs etc how to remove fore end metal work, ejectors, triggers etc explain how safeties work. Difference between sidelock/boxlock etc bit of practical stuff, bit of history. Would be a good evening. I know BASC run some regional stuff from time to time perhaps find your local rep?

the history ect and a good cleaning demo n stuff could be a good night , but i dont think you can get away with made up shotguns in a pub , its a public place ?? im in for a bit of history , but i bought the self cleaning beretta so im a little lax on the full cleaning bit .

Book a private room and you should be fine (most pubs have a function room (many dont charge midweek if you have food from them) away from the public area, you could if you knew an RFD even apply for a temp RFD permit for the site for the evening.

Are you suggesting I'm breaking the law when mine props up the bar when we pop in for a pint at lunch time and no I don't own a slip.

no I don't own a slip.

But you do live in a civilised society (at least where shotguns are concerned) we arent allowed to take them into the clay ground club house for a cuppa (no idea why tho and most people do, infact those that have borrowed a gun have to as they keep them behind the counter!)

Where abouts is this going to take place out of interest? I'm a bit of a clean frak when it comes to guns, so I'm happy to give a few pointers on how to disassemble and clean etc, I'm good with auto's and pumps.

I am talking around the Hertfordshire area, but also prompting maybe others to do the same thing in their local areas if there is a requirement. So maybe you could enquire about interest in your neck of the woods, it would be a good way to meet people, as we have discovered in the Hers area with demo's and meals.
