rapid basher
just for curiosity i was wondering what was the longest shot you"v ever done with f.a.c and sub 12lb air rifles mine is a mear 64yrd fac running @27lb with the old fateful rapid 7 look foward to hereing who has greater (quote from star wars) (the force) on this one
-Mongrel-
Sub 12, I head shot a rabbit at what turned out to be 62 yards. I mucked up on my 'marks' and actually thought it was at 45, it was still a clean kill albeit something I wouldn't have tried if I'd realised, and have no intention of trying again. Just goes to show that there's still very little drop over those 17 yards.
Dekers
The 702 yard bunny comes to mind! These things end up as ******* contests and there is always someone who has done better, and it also depends how long someones legs are and if they understand imperial and metric (3 yards to the foot and a metre = 6ft, or was that 6" in a metre?) and my mate has long legs so it was probably much further anyway, etc etc! -Mongrel-
When shooting the air rifle, I tend to walk the ground and measure out a few pertinent points over the shooting area, I carry a small spool of twine, 40 yards long and a knot tied every ten metres which I then use to 'mark' a few landmarks, if there's nothing I also carry those little plastic plant tags, stick one of those in the ground every 10 yards and you have an instant ready reckoner, unfortunately, in the case above I (thought) I knew the ranges already. Nope i think it shows you would have missed over the top my a fair old way at 45, anyone who has actually shot such ranges will tell you that one. If you realy have a rig that will keep to a rabbits brain box from 45-62 you wanna start f/t as there will be limited need to rangefind on those 40mm kill zones windage will be your only issue 45-55 yds

Underdog
Last summer I jumped a rabbit that ran to the wood, thinking it will stop at the wood and look back I got ready. Down he went with a litle hold over his head. I paced off 55paces, I was quite chuffed The HW95 in 177 and this ole' dog still got some use in them Underdog. Fact is that the rabbit was shot cleanly, and fell over with hardly a twitch. When I walked to recover it I realised that it wasn't on the 'mark' I thought it was and indeed was further. Out of curiosity, I then got out the faithful measuring twine and while I'll not guarantee it to the nearest inch, to the nearest foot definitely and probably six inches. You can take that or leave it, I know what happened and am happy at that. AirArms S400 running at a regularly chrono'd 11.2 on AirArms Fields. I shoot quite a bit mate too, so you can take your "...anyone who has actually shot such ranges will tell you that one." comments and judgmental attitude, and spout them off at someone who really cares what you have to say buddy. FalconFN
Not quite what you asked for but a bunny once jumped out from a hedge 8-10 yards from me, my scope was at x 12 mag so it's head almost filled the image and was way out of focus. I had about 3-4 seconds to range-find, adjust elevation and pull the trigger, embarrassingly I got it way wrong and aimed low missing it's head completely . Just shows you that they don't have to be at long range to get your poi wrong.
deejay
Ok I have shot two rabbits that I had guessed at 70 yards , I later ranged the distance at 82 yards . That was with my AA s410 fac 30ftlbs .22 The 17 hmr I have head shot rabbits at 239 yards after I had checked the distance with the range finder and dialed in the scope , I have a chart on the side of the stock (drop chart) which works a treat out to 250 yards and I use the mtc mamba . My .22lr well I stick to 75 yards with that as I mainly use it for lamping and find that judging distances in the dark is ..not easy . I bought myself the seben camera mount last month so I can video it in the spring when the need arises , I managed to control the rabbits just before october and pop up now and then with the .22 and the lamp to keep on top but come the summer I will be there with the .17hmr sitting in the car and waiting . But no doubt there will be a lot more people beating that as its probably capeable of a bit more , thats just my limit . Daz
